Help! No One Gets Me

Teen Devotion on Being Mis understood, no one getting youDo you ever have times when you feel like no one understands you? Or maybe that those closest to you don’t really get you? It can be really hard to know what to do when you feel like those close to you don’t get you, don’t listen, or maybe don’t take your concerns seriously.

Even though sometimes your family or friends may not understand, Jesus does. The Bible describes it like this:

“For we do not have a high Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a fellow feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning.” – Hebrews 4:15

The next verse says this: Heb 4:16 – “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

In other words, Jesus not only understands, He also has help for you to also beat the temptation and overcome every trouble. We are  told to boldly come (because you’re His child) to the throne of grace and obtain or receive the mercy (that’s the help when we mess up) and the grace (that’s the strength to overcome) in time of need (that covers everything).

So when you feel like no one understands or is there to help you through a tough time, remember that Jesus is there for you. He understands and will always listen to you and have your back. Go to Him when you need help and someone to get you. He’s always ready to help you out.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you that you really understand what I’m going through. I’m glad You are my friend during this time. I come to your throne of grace and ask you to give me the help I need to overcome this situation and the strength to whip this temptation. I receive it and believe it’s mine. Thank You Jesus!

What an Astronaut Teaches Us About Eternity

Youth Devotion on Eternity

Eternity can be a pretty scary thing to think about. What happens after death? How do we know if we will go to heaven? What about this life on the Earth. What does it mean? Questions, Questions, Questions. And sometimes it might feel like its hard to know the right answers to these questions. So, we’ve designed this devotion to help bring some clarity to the mystery of eternity.

First of all, what is eternity? According to Merriam-Webster, it’s time without an end or a state that comes after death and never ends. Great, so what? Well, eternity is something that God is, God is eternal. He has no beginning or end. He was for eternity past and will be for eternity future. But what does that mean for us?

Well, knowing all this helps us understand who we are better. See if God is eternal, and we are made in the image of God, that means that we are eternal and spirit beings as well.

So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. – Genesis 1:27 (NLT)

So if we’re eternal spirit beings like God, what does this mean for us when we die? Well, that’s where our good friend the astronaut helps us out. See astronauts are able to travel beyond the earth and explore space. And when astronauts are exploring space, many times they wear a spacesuit.

Their spacesuit is really awesome! It helps them be able to survive in outer space. It helps them perform experiments and learn about things outside of earth.

In the same way astronauts wear spacesuits, we wear bodies here on earth. Our body helps us live and function here on the earth. When we die, if we’ve accepted Jesus as our Lord, our spirit leaves our body and goes to heaven to spend eternity with God. Just like the astronaut takes off his spacesuit when he is no longer in space, when we die, we take off our ‘earth suit’ or body and go to be with the Lord.

We are confident, then, and would prefer to be away from this body and to live with the Lord.  – 2 Cor 5:8 (NIV)

When we die, we don’t stop existing. Our spirit simply leaves our body and goes to either heaven or hell, depending on whether we’ve made Jesus the Lord of our life. And just like the astronaut takes off his spacesuit when he’s done exploring outer space, when we die, we take off our body, and the real us, our spirit goes to be with the Lord.

This is great news for people who’ve accepted Jesus. They can know that when they die they go to heaven and be with the Lord. So the next time you see a picture of an astronaut, let it be a reminder of how one day we will get to spend eternity with the Lord.

What a GoPro Can Teach Us About Trusting God

Go Pro DevotionGoPro cameras are an awesome invention. They let you capture the world around you in new ways. You can ski with them, surf with them, attach them to your dog, your head, or maybe even your little brother. There are tons of crazy things you can do with a GoPro camera.

One of the great feature the GoPro is it’s waterproof case. It can be submerged and still be okay. That’s a lot like us. Life can be really hard at times. You can have days where you feel like you’re getting battered, bruised and held under the water. It could be anything from friends not treating you right to doing the wrong set of math problems for your homework.

The good news is that no matter how hard life gets or how tough things might seem, you can put your trust in God. See God promises to never leave you.

Be strong and be brave. Don’t be afraid of those people because the Lord your God is with you. He will not fail you or leave you.” – Deut 31:6

God will never leave us. He will never fail us. He’s like the GoPro’s waterproof case. As long as the GoPro camera is in the case, the GoPro is safe from the elements. Water can’t hurt it. Snow can’t hurt it. The camera is safe when its in the case.

That’s how we are when we put our trust in God. When we lean on Him, rely on Him and make Him our trust than no matter what is going on around us, we are safe.

You can go to him for protection. He will cover you like a bird spreading its wings over its babies. You can trust him to surround and protect you like a shield.” – Psalm 91:4

God will always have your back if you put your faith and trust in Him. So challenge yourself to put your trust in God. Don’t live your life in fear and discouraged by what’s going on around you. Instead put your trust in God and see God come through for you.

Who is God?

Youth Devotion - Who is God

Have you ever wished that you could see God? Touch Him? Go grab some coffee with Him and chat about the meaning of life? Sometimes, its easy when you feel you can’t see or touch God to wonder who is He? What’s He really like?

One of the best ways to get to know God is by reading or listening to the Bible. While that’s not the fun solution, its the best way you can get to know who He is an what He really likes. Getting into the Bible does take a little bit of work. Its not for the weak. It might mean setting some time aside when you’d rather be on Facebook or Twitter. It may mean refocusing your energy, or putting your phone away for ten minutes so you can focus without having to respond to a text.

By reading the Bible you can get to know who God is. And one of the best things about God is that He is love. Check out this verse:
And the love of God was made clear to us when he sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him. And this is love, not that we had love for God, but that he had love for us and sent his Son to be an offering for our sins – 1 John 4:9-10 Basic English
Wow.  What a God.  The fact that he loved us enough to sent his son Jesus for us even before we loved him back is incredible. We wouldn’t do anything close to that for someone else. We wouldn’t trade our most valuable possession for someone who was our enemy. Yet that’s what God did. While we had no love for God, He stepped in and gave everything He had. He put it all on the line so that we might have the chance to have eternal life through Jesus. Talk about love!

So the next time you’re wondering about God, who He is and what He’s in to, remember that you can always go to the Bible to find answers. Its also important to remind ourselves that God is love. He loved us so much that He put everything He had on the line to pay the price for our sins. There is no one else who could love you the way God does. So challenge yourself to go deeper into the Bible and get to know more about God!

5 Things To Believe About God

Devotion for Teens - 5 Beliefs

Have you ever thought about the difference between knowing and believing? You can know something is true, but its a totally different thing to believe it. Believing puts knowledge into action. Let’s take a look at five things you should believe about God.

  1. Believe God Loves You – This is such a simple truth, but when it becomes a belief, it can change your life. You’ve probably heard, “God Loves You” a million times. But have you ever let that truth sink in? Have you ever stopped to think about the fact that God loves you? Spend some time thinking about the fact that God loves you…it will change the way you live your life, and the way you treat others.
“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.” – John 3:16 (Message)
  2. Believe God Is For You –  This will help you through any situation you face. When you believe that God is for you, it changes the way you see yourself. You no longer look at yourself as someone who is just getting by in life. You see that God is on your side. He’s cheering you on, wanting you to succeed in life. Choose to believe that God is on your side.
“So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? ” – Romans 8:31 (Message)
  3. Believe That God Is With You – Do you ever feel alone or that no one really gets you? When you believe that God is with you, you won’t have to feel like you’re facing life alone. You begin to realize that you don’t have to live life in your own strength and ability, but that you can lean on God and his help. He will help you out when you feel alone.
“Since God assured us, “I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you,” – Hebrews 13:5 (Message)
  4. Believe That God Will Deliver You – God promises in His word to deliver us. That means that if we’re in harm’s way, He’ll go to bat for us to protect and deliver us from danger. What an awesome truth! When you believe that God will deliver you, it will remove fear in your life. You don’t have to be afraid of danger because you know that God is there to deliver you from those situations.
“If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” saysGod, “I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times” – Psalm 91:14-15 (Message)
  5. Believe God Will Provide – Instead of being limited by your resources, choose to tap into God’s resources. Believe that God will provide for you. Need a job? Believe that God has the right one lined up for you. Need help with math? Believe that God is sending the right people into your life to help you out and that you are understanding quickly. Believing that God will provide will change the way you live you life. It will help you see that you’re no longer bound to what you can do, but that you lean on God.
“You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19 (Message)

These beliefs will change your life, if you’ll let them. Take the time to think about them and let them become a part of your core belief system, as you do, they will begin to revolutionize the way you live.
