Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

One of the hardest things to do is to be kind and forgiving to people. Especially when those people have done you wrong. When someone mistreats you, the normal response is to get back at them. To hurt them like they’ve hurt you, to give them the silent treatment, or just do something to teach them a lesson. That’s what is considered normal. That’s how most people live their lives.

The Bible stands that on its head and tells us as Christians to be different. We’re challenged to not get back at someone, but to forgive them, just like God forgave us. Doing this isn’t normal, and it isn’t easy, but its what’s right.

And we can do it because God forgave us. We didn’t deserve God’s forgiveness, yet He gave it to us anyway. That means that it’s not too hard for us to forgive those who have mistreated us too.

However, that doesn’t mean that you have to be best friends with someone that hurt you or was unkind to you. It means that instead of spreading rumors about that person, or trashing their locker at school, you choose to drop it and let it go. Forgiveness isn’t saying that what they did or how they treated you was right, it’s simply choosing to stop the cycle of unforgiveness and hurt.

Forgiveness is letting the love of Jesus shine through you even when it’s hard. So challenge yourself today to push past what’s easy and choose to be kind and forgive others.

Pray: God, today I determine to forgive those around me who have hurt me. I choose to not get back or get even with them but to simply love them with your love. With your help, I know I can do it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. – Hebrews 13:8 (NLT)

Its easy to read this verse and think, so what? Who cares if Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever? So why is it a big deal that Jesus remains the same throughout time?

Here’s why: It means that Jesus doesn’t love you one day and then hate you the next. It means that He doesn’t get angry with you simply because He doesn’t have anything better to do. It means He is consistent. His love for you is consistent.

Many people in our lives are fickle. You may have friends who one day turn on you because you wore the wrong clothes or said the wrong thing. That’s not at all how Jesus is. He loves you, and that love is the same everyday.

Today’s Truth: Jesus’ Love and Opinion of you will never change.

Take some time today to think about how great it is that Jesus is the same. That His love and opinion of you doesn’t change.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Genesis 6:9

Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God. – Genesis 6:9

It can be easy to look at Noah and be envious. You can wish that God would use you to do something really amazing like how he used Noah.

Even though Noah was used by God in a big way, I bet to Noah it didn’t feel big at the moment. It probably felt like a lot of work. Taking care of tons of animals day after day would be really hard. Then he was stuck in a boat with what probably felt like unending rain. Follow that up with dealing with elephant poop. Noah had to put in a lot of work to be used by God.

I bet there were times when Noah wished that God had picked someone else to build the ark and take care of all those animals. Yet Noah still obeyed God. His close relationship with God kept him going when things were tough and took a lot of work.

We can do the same thing that Noah did. We might not have to build a huge boat to save the world, but God will ask us to do things for Him in our lifetime. And if we don’t give up and stay encouraged, we can accomplish big things for God. So decide today to draw close to God and let your relationship with God be the thing that keeps you going when things are tough.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Galatians 4:6

And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” – Galatians 4:6 (NLT)

This verse talks about God being Abba. That’s kind of like referring to God as our daddy. A good daddy looks out for His kids. He does whatever it takes to make sure his kids have all they need and are safe. If we know that a good earthly daddy would do that for his kids, what makes us think that our heavenly father wouldn’t do the same for us?

God wants nothing more than for you to have all your needs met and to be safe. He always will provide for you, if you’ll just put your trust in Him. God is a good father. He has made sure that we have everything we need to enjoy life.

Today’s Truth: God wants nothing more than for you to have all your needs met and to be safe

So today, take some time out to thank God for what He has done for you. Thank Him for keeping you safe, and providing for you.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Isaiah 41:18

I will make rivers flow on barren heights,
    and springs within the valleys.
I will turn the desert into pools of water,
    and the parched ground into springs. – Isaiah 41:18 (NIV)

Have you ever thought about the fact that the Lord has abundant resources? As the creator of the world, He has written abundance into every part of creation. Think about in a garden when a plant produces fruit or seeds. That one seed that was planted turns into many other plants and seeds. Sometimes it’s hundreds of times more than the one seed planted.

Isn’t that fascinating? Our God has abundant resources in our world. What’s even more exciting is that He makes the barren places fruitful.

Today’s Truth: God makes barren places fruitful.

Now most likely you don’t have a desert in your backyard that you need turned into a pool of water. However, there are probably areas in your life that feel like parched ground. Maybe you could use more godly friendships. Perhaps you need encouragement. Whatever your need is, the creator god is there with His abundant resources to help you out.

So go to Him today. Ask for His help in the areas in your life that feel dry and lacking. Know that He is a God of abundance, and trust that He will change those dry places into pools of water.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

It can be so easy to fear. You watch the news, TV shows, Reels, what have you and before you know it, the state the world is in can make you full of fear.

As children of God, however, we have an unfair advantage. That’s the help of God. God promises us that He will be with us. That means no matter how scary or alone you feel, the truth is that you’re not alone. You have heaven’s help.

Any time you feel weak, know that you have God’s strength and help. God is there to be on your side no matter what you face. So that should remove all fear in your life. There is literally nothing that life can throw at you that you need to be fearful about. Instead, you can be full of courage in spite of circumstances that can seem overwhelming.

Today’s Truth: God is on your side. You have nothing to fear.

God is on your side, and with you. There is nothing you have to fear.

So today challenge yourself to say no to fear. Don’t let fear stop you from what God has for you. Choose to face life knowing that you have heaven’s help in every situation.

I used to wonder how the people of Israel could worship idols. I always thought it was so crazy that they could trust in something they made with their own hands rather than trust in a god whom they couldn’t see. However, as I’ve given it more thought, I’ve realized that many of us do similar things today.

No, none of us make a big idol out of gold. But there are areas of our lives that we build in our own strength. Maybe we build up an idol of success. So we study hard at school, try to get into a good college, and then hope that all of our effort will bring us success in our adult lives. Now, there’s nothing wrong with hard work. working hard is a godly character trait.

Today’s Truth: Don’t let anything stand in the way of your relationship with God.

However, when we trust in our hard work alone, and not in God, in a sense we are making our own efforts an idol in our lives. We can make many things in our lives idols if they crowd out our trust in God or our time with God.

We were created for worship and for knowing God. Anything that stands in the way of that is an idol. God should be first and foremost our measure of success. So determine today that you are not going to let anything get in the way of your relationship with God. When you have God, you have everything that you need.

If you have a desire to be married one day, that’s a good thing. In Genesis, we see that God created marriage and the family, so that desire is a good one. The trouble comes when we want to be married and in a relationship so much that we are unhappy being single, or we settle for a relationship that is less than God’s best for our lives.

In order to not settle for a relationship that is unhealthy, you’ve got to put a bit of thought into it. What do I mean? Well, you’ve got to spend a little time thinking about where you’re going in life.

For example, do you want a family? If so, the person you date should want that too. Do you want to make going to church a priority? If you say yes, then be sure to find a person to date that feels the same way as you do. These are just a few practical things to examine, but there are many more too.

To find a good person to date, you’ve got to know where you’re going in life. As you discover what you want in life, it will help you filter out people that are potentially unhealthy for you to date.

Finally, don’t be afraid to ask God for help. He knows more than anyone whether the person you’re thinking about dating would be a good fit for your life. So go to Him. Ask His wisdom and advice. If He tells you no, then listen to Him and obey. It’s always better to be single than to nurse a broken heart.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 2 Corinthians 6:14

Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? – 2 Corinthians 6:14 (NLT)

God placed in us the desire for a relationship. However, we do have to use some caution about who we get into a relationship with.

Relationships can alter the path and trajectory of your life. If you’re dating someone who doesn’t love God, it can make it harder for you to put importance on your relationship with God.

I remember a time when I was at Bible college. There was a guy I was interested in dating who was there studying youth ministry, which was a passion of mine at the time. All things pointed to this being a great relationship. However, as I got to know him more, I realized that he didn’t really have a heart after God.

His relationship with Jesus wasn’t the biggest priority in life. Yes, he was a Christian, but he wasn’t following after God the way I wanted to. I realized that even though he was a Christian and headed down a path that was similar to one that I wanted to go down, he wasn’t a person I should seriously date. Even though it was hard, I had to stop the relationship.

Today’s Truth: Date people who love Jesus as you do.

The truth is, it’s better to be single than in a relationship with someone who isn’t following God the way you are. If their heart isn’t after the things of God, it’s going to make a marriage and family difficult because you’re going to be pulling in two different directions.

So as you go after relationships, make sure that the people you date are ones who love Jesus like you. Also, find out if they are headed in the same direction as you are. That will make things so much easier. Determine to not settle for just ok in your dating relationships. Realize how important you are to God and decide to wait for the best that He has for you.

Pray: Jesus, I ask for your help when it comes to dating. Help me find good relationships that are focused on you and that challenge me to love you more. In your name, I pray, Amen.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Genesis 2:18

We talked a little yesterday about singleness. It’s easy if you’re single to feel like you’re all alone. You can let your mind wander and begin to feel unhappy all because you’re single. The truth is, the desire for a relationship is normal. God has wired you to want a relationship.

Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.” – Genesis 2:18 (NLT)

God saw that Adam was alone in the garden and created Eve to be his helper. So God created marriage and He created humans to have relationships. So, if you have a desire to be in a relationship and to be married someday, then that’s a good desire.

The trouble comes when you try to rush things or become unhappy in waiting. If you’re single, you have to learn to be content and happy in your relationship with God. Instead of spending each night crying into your pillow, wishing for a relationship, choose to get to know your heavenly father.

Talk to Him. Ask Him for help. Spending your energy seeking Him, and as you do, one day the right kind of relationship will come into your life. And because you spent time getting to know God, He can show you what that right kind of relationship will look like.

Today’s Truth: The desire to have a relationship is a good thing.

Spending time getting to know God is never wasted. God created you and knows you better than anyone else. So as you get to know Him, He will show you things about yourself. He will help you and then when the time is right, you’ll be ready to enjoy a relationship that is god-directed and focused on the right things.

Pray: God, I ask for your help. Help me to be content in my season of being single. I want to spend this time getting to know you better. I ask you to help fulfill me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
