 Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the lord means safety. – Proverbs 29:25

How many times have you been guilty of fearing people? Maybe you don’t talk to certain people during lunch because you’re afraid of what others might think. Maybe you wear certain types of clothes so that people like you better. These are just two simple examples of fearing people.

Fearing people is something that we all do from time to time. However, if we give into the fear of what others think it will trap us. We can become afraid to take a risk, or afraid to do the right thing because we don’t know what someone else might think of us.

Instead of fearing others, we should be focused on trusting in God. Trusting in God will keep us safe and keep us doing the right thing. Choose today, regardless of how hard it might seem, to set fear aside and trust in God.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Romans 8:37

Yet even in the midst of all these things, we triumph over them all, for God has made us to be more than conquerors, and his demonstrated love is our glorious victory over everything! – Romans 8:37 (TPT)

Can you remember the last time someone hurt you? Maybe someone really let you down, and it has effected you. It’s easy to allow the hurt from others to trickle down into other areas of your life. For example, if you’ve been betrayed, it’s easy to take it out at your mom at home. You allow hurt in one area to trickle down into other areas of your life. Responding like this, however, isn’t healthy. It could cause you to destroy the relationships in your life that could be the support you need to get through this difficult time.

So, instead of taking your hurt out on others, consider what today’s Bible verse says. It tells us that in the midst of all these things, we triumph. That means we’re winners. You might look in the mirror and see someone you think is unloveable. But that’s not what God sees. When He looks at you, He sees someone that has value.

Truth: I choose my response when I’ve been hurt.

So today, realize this truth: you choose your response when you’re hurt. You can grab onto that hurt and allow it to destroy you.  Thinking about the hurt can cause you to hurt others, but you can choose to go to God instead. You can let Him be your comfort in times of hurt. You can go to Him and let the truth in the Bible become what is real to you.

God’s truth says you’re valuable. His truth is that you’re loved. So regardless of what people say or do to you, you can live in freedom. Why? Because you know that God loves you and sees you as a winner in Him.

Today’s Truth: God says that I’m valuable and loved, no matter what has been done to me.

Daily Devotion and Bible Verse – John 1:12

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. – John 1:12 (NLT)

In many countries, citizens of that country have rights. In the United States of America if you’re arrested you are read your rights. You’re told you have the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney among other things. These rights mean that as a citizen of the country you’re entitled to certain things.

This Bible verse tells us that if we believe Jesus and accept Him we have the right to be children of God. That is a great right. Its awesome to know that we can be called God’s children. We don’t have to know God from a far. We can know Him personally because we are His children.

Today’s Truth: We don’t have to know God from a far. We can know Him personally because we are His children.

All we have to do to receive that right is to believe in Jesus and accept Him as our Lord. This verse really shows us how easy it is to become a child of God.

So as you go through today, take some time to be thankful that you have the right to be God’s child. It is great to know that we’ve been given that awesome right!

Daily Devotion with Bible Verse – August 8

So we, though we are a number of persons, are one body in Christ, and are dependent on one another – Romans 12:5 (BBE)

Sometimes we can feel like the people at church don’t get us. Maybe it’s the age difference or just that they seem so much different than us. However, if it’s a Bible believing church, the people there are significant and can play a special role in your life. This verse explains that when we come to Christ we are made part of a family. This family is now the “Body of Christ”. We are Jesus’ hands and feet.

When you are part of a body, you’re all dependent on another. When one member is hurting, the whole body is hurting. God created us to care for each other and be dependent on one another.

Even if you are much younger or feel different than those around you at your church. Just like you would take care of your own body by taking a shower, brushing your teeth and eating, volunteer at an upcoming outreach event or attend a small group. Meet others in your church and find out more how you can minister to them.

God often places you into your local church and He can use you to encourage and strengthen His body which is members of the Church.

Do you have those days when everything your mom and brother do simply drive you crazy? Maybe as hard as you try, your family continually irritates you. As a result, you’re constantly in a bad mood.

Do everything without complaining and arguing, – Philippians 2:14 (NLT)

Today’s Bible verse is a challenge for those days when everyone is making us mad. It’s for those days when everything your mom asks you to do feels like too much. And especially for those times when you just want to be left alone.

Yes, we have days when we just are struggling, but even on those bad days, it’s up to us to try to practice self-control when dealing with others. You can push yourself to have a good attitude even if the people who live at your house make you mad. There are times when even when you want to complain about a chore or argue with your brother that you can say no.

And while that isn’t always easy, it’s what we’re challenged to do. So today, determine to try to set aside arguing and complaining. Decide that you’ll drop the small things and try to have a good attitude as you go through life today.

So now I live with the confidence that there is nothing in the universe with the power to separate us from God’s love. I’m convinced that his love will triumph over death, life’s troubles, fallen angels, or dark rulers in the heavens. There is nothing in our present or future circumstances that can weaken his love. – Romans 8:38 (TPT)

When you get hurt by someone it might cause you to question God’s character. You might wonder, does He really love me? If so, why did something so bad happen to me? These questions, if unanswered can really shake your faith in God.

However, today’s Bible verse helps us see how great God’s love is for us. It tells us that there is nothing, not life’s troubles or present circumstances that can weaken His love for us. That’s good news! There is nothing that you can go through or anything that can be done that will change God’s love for you.

God loves you. He thinks you’re great! So even if people don’t see your potential or hurt you, you can stand firm in the fact that God loves you. In the middle of your hurt, in the middle of your pain, don’t turn from God. God is the one who loves you when no one else does. He’s the one that will be with you in the middle of your storm. Go to God. Stand firm, knowing His love will carry you through.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Matthew 18:21

Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven! – Matthew 18:21-22 (NLT)

There is nothing more difficult than dealing with someone who has treated you wrongly. Perhaps someone laughed at what you said, or what you wore to school. Maybe someone didn’t do what you wanted them to do. The normal thing to do in situations like this is to get back at them. You might want to teach them a lesson or treat them like they treated you.

However, today’s Bible verse challenges us to do something different. It challenges us to not only forgive someone, but to keep forgiving them. That means they might keep doing the same thing to you and you are to keep forgiving them. Forgiving someone like that might seem impossible to do.  That’s why Jesus gave us what we needed to love and forgive others.

The Bible talks about how God’s love has been placed in our hearts by the Holy Ghost (Romans 5:5). So when Jesus tells us in this verse that we are to forgive and keep forgiving, it’s not something that is impossible for us to do. We can do this because He gave us the love we need to do it. We just have to choose to let that love flow out of us.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 1 Timothy 2:4

who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. – 1 Timothy 2:4

This verse shows us that God cares for us in a deep way. He first cares about our eternity. He wants every person to have the chance to accept Jesus and to be saved. Not everyone will choose to do that, but God’s heart is that everyone would accept Jesus as their Lord.

The end of this verse goes even deeper. God doesn’t want us to get saved and then He forgets all about us. God wants us to get saved and then to learn more about Him. To learn the truth of who He is.

Remember today that God wants a deep relationship with you. He wants you to understand the truth written in the Bible. He cares about you and He also cares about those who have yet to know Him. So spend time getting to know God better and also begin thinking about who you might tell about Jesus. Be willing to be used by God to tell someone else about the truth!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 1 Peter 4:10

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. – 1 Peter 4:10 (NLT)

Have you ever gotten a birthday gift that came with instructions? Let’s say you got a box of Lego. Those Lego could be used for all kinds of things. You could throw them at your little sister or used as decorations for your room. However, when Lego was created, it was intended for a specific purpose. And that’s why instructions came with the box you got for your birthday.

In the same way, God has given you instructions for your giftings. He asks us to use them to serve others. You can serve by complimenting a friend or helping someone in need. That’s just one way of many that you can use what you’re naturally gifted in to help someone else.

So today, ask God for help. Ask Him to show you creative ways you can use your giftings. You could be surprised at the things He shows you. Don’t be afraid to walk out what He tells you. Choose to use your gifts to serve others and see what God does through you!

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near – Hebrews 10:25 (NLT)

Today’s Bible verse gives us a challenge. It challenges us to not stop meeting together and going to church. In life, it can be really easy to want to just sleep in instead of going to church. Maybe you had to work late the night before, or are just wanting to enjoy your weekend. Perhaps your friends are doing something fun that you’d rather be doing than going to church. Whatever the case is, its easy to stop going to church. But this verse challenges us to not do that.

Going to church is a great way to keep yourself encouraged in your faith. You can hear preaching that will inspire and challenge you. You can meet and talk to other people who will encourage you in your walk with God.

Today’s Truth: God knows that when we meet together we get inspired and challenged to live lives for Him.

God is challenging us in this Bible verse to not stop meeting together as believers. God knows that when we meet together we get inspired and challenged to live lives for Him. So don’t give in to the things that would pull you away from going to church. Decide to make meeting with other believers a priority in your life!
