Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Jeremiah 1:4

The word of the Lord came to me, saying,

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
    before you were born I set you apart;
    I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:4 (NIV)

We all have days where we struggle, don’t we? You know, those days when you think no one understands you? I remember so many times, I’d run into my bedroom upset because someone had misunderstood what I was saying or trying to do.

Life often seems to be filled with many opportunities to get upset because someone just doesn’t get you or understand you. However, today’s Bible verse is very comforting in that regard. The Bible verse today talks about how God knew Jeremiah before he was even born.

Isn’t that interesting? When Jeremiah was in his mother’s womb, God knew who He was. Before a single person on earth knew Him, God did. We can take comfort in this verse too. Why? Because God knows us. He knew us before any human ever did. He sees us in a way that no one else does. God knows our calling and our potential. Often when we feel misunderstood by people, we forget that there is one who has known us from the beginning and understands us perfectly, God.

So in those moments when you struggle feeling hurt, overlooked, misunderstood, it’s important to realize that God loves you and knows you from your mother’s womb. When we look to Him for our purpose and calling, it makes everything else fall into perspective.
