In the world we constantly see people promoting themselves. Whether it’s on social media, in the halls of your school, or just hanging out with friends, it seems like people are often trying to make themselves appear more successful than they are. However, this is the opposite of what Paul is doing in this verse. He says that he did labor more than others for Jesus but points out that it wasn’t him getting the credit, but the grace of God in him.

Paul is only bragging on the grace of God that works in him. This is true humility. It’s simply believing and accepting what God says about you.

You do not need to promote yourself if God is in you. You can trust God that His grace (His ability) in you is all that you need to get you to where you need to go. Today trust God’s grace to empower you and then brag on Him instead of yourself. This is the true way to walk in humility.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” – Philippians 4:8

It can be really easy to fall into the trap of thinking about the wrong things. We all do it at times, and before long, if you leave your negative thoughts unchecked, they can lead you to become upset or discouraged.

In the Bible we are encouraged to think on good things. This shows us that there’s power in what you think about. Your thoughts can lead to a change in your actions and direction. The thoughts you think can determine where you go in life.

So choose to redirect your thoughts when you begin to get down on yourself. Replace those negative thoughts with things that are positive, things that God would say about you or the situation you’re facing. By choosing good thoughts, you’re setting yourself up for success in the future!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 37:4

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 (NIV)

This verse has often been misunderstood. Many have thought that if they delight themselves in the Lord, every desire they’ve ever had would come to pass. However, this is not what this verse is saying. This is saying that when you delight yourself in the Lord, the things you desire begin to change. God begins to give you new desires.

The great news about getting desires from God is that you know those desires already are something He desires for you. If He gave the desire, He also wills for you to pursue it.

Just like anything, you need to test your desires to see if they are of God. The only way to know what God’s will of something is, is by seeing if it agrees with what the Bible already says on the subject. You might have a desire to go steal something, but you can see in the Bible that it says, “Thou shalt not steal…”. This makes this obvious that it’s not God’s will. However, if a desire is something that lines up with the Bible and the desire came as a result of truly delighting yourself in the Lord, you can trust that it’s a desire from Him. If the more you continue to delight yourself in God and the desire gets stronger, you can begin stepping out in confidence and head in that direction because you know that desire is from God.

Daily Bible Verse & Devotion – Eph 1:4

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: – Ephesians 1:4

This verse shows us how important we are to God. In this scripture, we see that God chose us. When you get to pick your piece of cake at a birthday party, you don’t pick the sad, small piece. No, you pick the best and the biggest. God is no different. He picked you. That means He wanted to know you.  When you realize how much God loves you that can give you a new sense of self-worth.

Today’s Truth: When you realize how much God loves you it gives you a new sense of self-worth. 

Ephesians 1:4 teen devotionThe end of the verse tells us that not only did God chose us, but it shows us how He sees us. When God looks at us in the light of what Jesus did on the cross He sees someone who is holy and without blame. He doesn’t see all the areas where you’ve fallen short or messed up. He sees you and He likes what He sees. To Him you’re great. To Him, you matter.

So when you start to get down on yourself or experience a day when you feel like no one cares, remember that God does. He chose you before the foundation of the world. Also, remember that to God you are Holy and blameless. There is nothing that God is holding against you. Jesus’ blood was enough to pay the price for sin and we are now free to live an abundant life in God.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 139:1

O  lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. – Psalm 139:1

It can be easy to get up in the morning, look in the mirror, and not like what you see. You might wish you were taller, had a different hair color, or were more outgoing. Its easy to want to beat yourself up for not looking, acting, or being a certain way.

What’s really great about God is that He looks at your heart. This verse tells us that God has examined our hearts and knows everything about us. And the great thing is, He still likes us. When God looks at you, He doesn’t see all your flaws, short comings, or failures. God sees you in Jesus. In Jesus you are perfect and complete.

Today’s Truth: In Jesus, you are perfect and complete.

God sees you as a person of worth. He loves you more than you can ever know. So instead of getting down on yourself because of how you look or how you act, choose instead to see yourself like God sees you. Choose to see yourself as a person of worth. You are someone that God paid a huge price to get to know!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 2 Corinthians 5:19

For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. – 2 Cor 5:19 (NIV)

Most people keep track of all the times people had done wrong by them. They recall the rumor someone started about them, then the time that they felt like they were mistreated by the math teacher, and they pile up thing after thing that other people have done to them and keep track of each hurt and offense

While we as humans often remember each offense against us, aren’t you glad God doesn’t do that? God is not counting our sins against us. That’s the good news of the gospel. And the gospel isn’t just for you, it’s for the world.

Today, thank God for reconciling you through Jesus and forgiving you of all your sins. Look for opportunities today to share this good news with someone that doesn’t know it.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Luke 9:25

What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self? – Luke 9:25

Many times we put a lot of importance on what we do. We want to date the right person, drive the right car, or wear the right clothes. Sometimes our whole life is consumed with getting all the ‘right things’.

The problem with all this is, if your success and worth is defined by what you have or what you do, you will always be disappointed. If success is found in relationships, what happens if you never find a person who makes you feel complete? In the same way, if you think success is found in money, what if you never make enough money to make you happy?  True happiness can’t be found in things or what you do. True happiness and success is found in knowing Jesus.

Today’s Truth: True happiness is found in knowing Jesus

So spend some time today getting to know Jesus. When you invest time getting to know Jesus, you’ll see that you’re happier and more fulfilled.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid – John 14:27

Have you ever had one of those really crazy stressful days? Maybe everything is not going the way you want or you have too much to do and too little time. Whatever it is that stresses you out, it’s good to remind yourself in stressful times that you can go to God for peace.

Jesus said in today’s verse that He left us peace. What does that really mean? Here are a few definitions from Merriam-Webster.com for peace.

  • A state of tranquility or quiet
  • Freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions
  • Harmony in personal relations

God’s peace covers many of the things that bug us. Whether it’s oppressive thoughts, emotions, bad relationships, or just the stresses of life, Jesus said that He gave us peace.

However, just like any gift you get, however, it’s up to you to use it. If you got a new pair of shoes for Christmas, but you never took them out of the box and used them, they wouldn’t do you any good. The gift of peace is the same way. You’ve got to open it up and use it in stressful times and situations. Take a moment today and choose to tap into God’s peace. Give Him the things that are stressing you out and choose to walk in His peace today!

“Yet God freely and graciously declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.” – Romans 3:24

Have you ever thought about the fact that there is a penalty to sin? Our sin keeps us from God. God can’t have sin around Him, so if you sin, even in the smallest way, that sin keeps you from God.

Our sin demands that we are separated from God. That’s not what God wanted for us, however. So He sent Jesus to die on the cross to pay the penalty for sin. Jesus’ sacrifice allows us to be with God.

This is great news for anyone who accepts Jesus into their heart. This means they are freed from what they deserved for sin. To God you’re righteous. What Jesus did was payment for our sins. When God looks at you, He doesn’t see your failures and your sin. Instead, He sees us righteous, made holy by the blood of Jesus.

Daily Devotion and Daily Bible Verse – Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9

We all face situations in life when we feel scared and alone. However, we can take courage from what this Bible verse says. We don’t have to be scared or dismayed because the Lord is with us wherever we go.

That means that if you’re facing something that seems big, scary, and overwhelming, know that God is right there with you. You aren’t doing it alone!

Many times we can want to turn away from situations that seem scary or overwhelming. However, we can face those situations with confidence when we begin believing what this verse says. When we begin to believe that we’re not alone and that we’ve got God with us wherever we go we can face any situation. We’ve got God’s help on our side!

Today’s Truth: You don’t have to be afraid. God is with you wherever you go!
