Your Rockin’ Christmas Checklist

Devotion for Teens on Christmas

Christmas season is in full swing! Stores are crammed full of people doing their last minute shopping and you’re probably gearing up for all the good food that you’re going to eat in the next few days. Because Christmas is such a busy time, its easy to forget some stuff, so we’ve got a checklist guaranteed to help you get rocking around that Christmas tree!
• Decide to be happy – Its easy to fall into the habit of unhappiness at Christmas time, and its usually the small things that steal the fun right out of Christmas. It usually starts with simple things, like being jealous about the presents a friend got, or feeling upset because you were forced to go to Aunt Lucy’s house instead of hanging out with your friends. Choose to not let the simple things make you unhappy this Christmas. Decide no matter what to be happy and you’ll be rocking around the Christmas tree in no time!
  • Be thankful – No matter how stinky your Christmas seems, you can always find things to be thankful for. One thing to be thankful for at Christmas is the fact that Jesus came into the world to pay the price for your sins. You’re not getting what you deserve, which was hell. Instead Jesus paid the price for your sins so you can party it up this Christmas season!
  • Remember what Christmas is Really About – There’s usually so much going on at Christmas that sometimes its easy to forget what Christmas is really about…JESUS! Spend some time thinking about what Jesus means to you, and be sure to thank Him for what He’s done in your life.
Keep in mind this Christmas season how awesome Jesus is. Think about all He’s done in your life, and take time to be thankful. If you do, you’ll find that you’ll be rocking around that Christmas tree in no time!

Your Bad Day Checklist

Teen Devotion with a Checklist for having a bad dayBad days happen to all of us. Unfortunately, life isn’t perfect and sometimes it just doesn’t go as you wanted it to. With that in mind, we’ve put together an awesome checklist to help you beat the bad day blues.
• Don’t blame God – Bad things are bound to happen to you. This doesn’t mean that God is trying to teach you a lesson or is punishing you. So when hard times come, don’t place the blame on God. God is a good God and He wants the best for your life. James 1:17
  • You Are in Control of Your Attitude – You might not be able to control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude in tough times. You can choose to stay positive and have a good attitude when a bad day happens. Philippians 4:8
  • Do something for yourself – Sometimes when having a bad day, it helps to do something special for yourself. It might be something simple like buying yourself a candy bar or taking a long walk. Whatever it is, find something that you can do for yourself to help you unwind.
  • Recognize that tomorrow is coming – Your day might be bad today, but tomorrow is on its way. Sometimes, things seem better in a day or two. Time really does help in lots of different situations. Philippians 3:13
Unfortunately, bad days happen to everyone. When you’re having a bad day choose to put things into perspective and realize that your life isn’t over. You may have had a bad day, but the good news is that you’ve got God on your side. God will help see you through when you’re having a bad day.

Lessons on Success From Frozen Waffles

Success for Teens on Frozen Waffles

Frozen waffles could possibly be one of the best inventions on the planet. There is nothing better when you’re rushing off to school in the morning than being able to stuff a frozen waffle in the toaster and have a hot breakfast ready in just a few minutes. Other than enjoying their crispy goodness, have you ever stopped to think about where frozen waffles came from?

Frozen waffles began with a guy named Frank Dorsa.  Frank got his feet wet by making mayo, then he started experimenting with making waffle batter. His waffle batter was really good, and he had lots of people wanting more of it than he could make and keep fresh. This caused a problem. His waffle batter was going bad. He had a great product, but couldn’t keep it fresh long enough to ship it all over the country.

So what did Frank do? He thought outside of the box and decided to ship the waffles frozen.

What if instead of finding a solution, Frank had said, ‘My waffle batter is going bad. Bummer! I guess I’m just going to have to say forget it, and stop making waffles”. If Frank would have done that, he would have cut the worldwide brand, Eggo short.

In the same way, how many times do we do that type of thing with God? Life throws us a problem and we say, “Bummer! I guess I’m going to have to forget it, or do something else”. We hit a problem and give up. We never stand our ground, believe God, and allow God to help us turn what looks like a problem into an opportunity.
But if any of you lack wisdom, you should pray to God, who will give it to you; because God gives generously and graciously to all. – James 1:5 (GNB)
When you’re faced with a problem and you don’t know what to do, ask God. He wants to help you. When you’re teamed up with God, you know you’re bound for success! Let God help you, and you’ll see what once looked like a problem turn around into an awesome opportunity!

Followable – Becoming a Person Others Want to Follow

Devotion For Teens on Leadership
Are you a person that others want to follow? That can be a pretty sobering question to ask yourself. Its an important question to take note of. Are you a person that is followable?

Here’s a few things that you can do to become more followable.

  1. Care For Others – Jesus is such a great example of this. Everywhere He went, He healed the sick, cast out demons and took care of those around Him. He even fed the crowds that followed Him. Jesus is a great example of caring for others. If you want to be followable, caring for those around you should be one of your top priorities.
  2. Lead By Example  – What you say is important, but it is what you do that really matters. What are you actions saying? Do you say one thing and do another? Part of being followable is being a person who’s actions match what they say.
  3. Check Your Attitude – Your attitude is key. Learning to have a good attitude will propel you toward success. Make sure in everything you do, you’re keeping a good attitude. A good attitude will help you become a person others want to follow.

Developing habits that cause you to be followable take time. However, if you invest in growing your leadership skills, you can become a person that others will want to follow.

Peanut Butter Cups and Parents

Devotion for Teens - Parents
In my opinion, Reeses Peanut Butter Cups are the best candy in the world. To me, opening a bag of them is literally one of the best things in life! I remember one day I had bought a brand new bag of Reeses and before I could eat them I had to run a quick errand. When I was done with the errand, I went to stick my hand in the bag to start eating them. At that moment, I was faced with the horrible realization that my bag of peanut butter cups had melted together into one nasty giant mess of peanut butter, chocolate and wrapper in my hot car. That was not a good day!

Sometimes dealing with your parents can seem a little like that melted mangled bag of peanut butter cups. It can seem like a sticky, oozy gooey disgusting mess of emotions and frustration inside you. As a teenager, it can be hard dealing with your parents at times. You might feel like they are out of touch with reality. Perhaps you feel that they don’t understand you or that the rules they ask you to follow are absurd and taking all your fun away.

If you feel this way, we’ve got a few tips to help you deal with your parents more successfully.

  1. You will not always agree with your parent’s decisions – You have a different viewpoint than your parents do. That being said, you will not always agree with all decisions that they make. When you disagree, its important to not throw a fit, scream, pout or cry. Instead, show maturity by talking to them about your viewpoint like an adult. If they still don’t come around and see things from your perspective, decide to have a good attitude anyway. In life, you will not always get your way, so decide to be happy regardless.
  2. You should respect your parents – This probably sounds like a curse word, but its true nonetheless. The Bible says in Ephesians 6:1 – “Obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do.” (NLT)
You don’t have to be best friends with your parents, but you are required to honor and obey them. This means you shouldn’t be bad mouthing them, or disrespecting them. Instead, even when you don’t agree with them choose to respect them. This will set you up for success throughout your life.

Dealing with your parents can be hard at times. It can seem like they don’t get you or understand you. The main thing to remember is that no matter how hard it gets, God asks us to honor and respect our parents. That doesn’t mean when they do things we like, but also when they drive us crazy. Make the decision to respect your parents regardless of how you feel about them.

How To Get Promoted At Work

Youth Devotion on Reaching your dreams

Being a teenager, and having your own job is a great thing! Its exciting making your own money and being able to buy things that you want. In light of that, we’ve come up with some sure-fire tips that will help increase your chances of being promoted at your job.

  1. Copy what the successful people do – Find a person at your job that is successful and has been promoted. Watch to see the things they did to get promoted. Find out what your company rewards and do those things. You might be a hard worker, but if you’re doing the wrong types of things, you WONT get promoted. Find out what types of things your boss is looking for and do those things.
  2. Keep a good attitude/be willing to learn – Learning a new job can be really hard sometimes. It can be easy to think you’re not going to get it, or want to give up. Its important at your job to keep a good attitude. Your co-workers will be happier to work with you and want to help you more if you have a good attitude. People enjoy being around a person that has a good attitude and wants to learn. If you’re having a bad day, try to not let it affect how you treat others. Stay positive and over time, your boss and co-workers will notice.
  3. Choose to get along with others – It can be really hard to deal with those people who you just don’t like. When a person rubs you the wrong way, it can be really tough to want to get along with them. But, no matter how others treat you, you should CHOOSE to respond to them kindly. The Bible talks about it like this:
“The message you heard from the very beginning is this: we must love one another.” – 1John 3:11 (NLT)
  4. Don’t get discouraged – If you’re doing all the “right” things but still haven’t been promoted, its easy to want to give up and get discouraged. Many times people give up and quit their job right before a promotion was coming. Its easy to want to give up and get discouraged waiting for a promotion to come, to feel like its taking FOREVER! The Bible puts it this way:
“So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit.” – Galatians 6:9 (Message)
Don’t give up. Promotion will come your way, if you don’t quit.

Getting promoted at a job takes time and it takes effort. If you give it your best, keep a good attitude, choose to get along with others and not be discouraged, you will be on track to getting a promotion. Your job can be a great way for you to see God move on your behalf. Ask God for His help at your job and for wisdom. You’ll be surprised at what he’ll show you!

Pray: God, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I ask for your help at my job. I believe that with your help I can become a better employee. I know that you desire good things for me, so I ask for your help at my job. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
