Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Romans 8:14

This week, we’ve been exploring some tips and ideas on how we can learn to hear from God. Today let’s focus on the fact that God wants to lead us as children of God.

Isn’t the idea of that comforting? Knowing that God does indeed want to lead us. He wants to guide us, He wants to show us things to come and help us. As His children, we can expect to hear from Him.

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. – Romans 8:14 (NIV)

That means that hearing from God isn’t something that’s difficult or weird. It’s something that we should expect to have to happen as children of God. So if you haven’t, take some time to get quiet. Filter out distractions and things that might keep you from spending time with God, and get into your Bible. Learn His voice and expect it to lead you in big or even small things each day.

Today’s Truth: As Children of God, we can expect to hear God speak.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Hebrews 4:12

Hebrews 4:12

For we have the living Word of God, which is full of energy, and it pierces more sharply than a two-edged sword. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts. – Hebrews 4:12 (TPT)

One morning of my sophomore year of high school, I woke up and went about my morning routine. As I ran to the kitchen, I took a peek at my goldfish. I usually fed both of us breakfast at the same time. As I reached for his food, I noticed something strange. The fish wasn’t moving. Another glance and the bowl, and I realized my fish was dead. His little body was floating upside down in his bowl.

I was pretty upset about my fish. And it made me realize that there’s something to things that are full of life. When my fish was alive, I loved watching it, playing with it. Once my fish died, I was scared to even touch it. It was gross and I even asked my mom to dispose of its body.

When things have life, they’re exciting and fun. That’s how the Bible is. It’s full of life and energy. It speaks to us and helps us in all situations. Sometimes, it brings us comfort if we’re upset. Other times, the Bible shows us areas of weakness and how we can improve.

Overall, the Bible helps us. It’s there to guide us through life and as we spend time in it, it helps us. So today, make reading the Bible a priority in your life. Spend time getting to know Jesus through it. The Bible isn’t a dull lifeless book, but rather a book to help you through every situation you face.

Today’s Truth: The Bible Helps You In Every Situation You Face

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. – Matthew 11:28

Has life made you tired? We all have those seasons when it seems like life is just too difficult. The stress of life sometimes just keeps you from wanting to do anything at all.

When things get tough and it feels like you can’t keep going on, today’s verse can help encourage you. In those times when you feel like you can’t go on, you can go to Jesus. He will help you through the situation you face. Jesus will love you and encourage you when you feel that you can’t go on.

So today, spend some time in God’s word. Open up your Bible and let God love you and speak to you. Realize that He loves you more than you could ever understand or even imagine. Go to Him to get your encouragement and help and know that He loves you and will help you through it.

Today’s Truth: You’re Loved. Go to God to be encouraged when you’re upset.

Daily Devotion and Bible Verse – Proverbs 29:25

If you’re back at school, you know how easy it is to begin to fear people. Not that you’re scared of them, but rather you look for the approval of others. When your friends and teachers approve of what you do, it’s easy to feel better about yourself.

Let’s take a look at what the Bible says about fearing other people in today’s verse.

Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety. – Proverbs 29:25 (NLT)

Fearing people is a trap. But it’s easy to fall into. Perhaps you know from going to church and reading your Bible that something is wrong, but when all your friends are around you do it anyway. You’d rather let God down than have your friends not like you.

This Bible verse calls that kind of thinking a dangerous trap. It’s dangerous because when you get so consumed with what others think that you do things that don’t please God you’re headed down a bad path.

Today’s Truth: Choose to Follow After God

Make the decision to follow after God. When you choose to follow after God you’ll always have safety and be happier.

Today’s Truth: Find Rest in Jesus

Choose to rest in Jesus. Let go of your burdens by giving them to Him. Pray, “Jesus, I come to You. I trust You with my life.” I know You are able to handle these situations, so I give them to You.”

Find Rest in Jesus

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – John 15:11

God doesn’t want us walking about our lives upset and defeated. Instead, He wants us to be filled with joy. And not just the basic, ordinary, barely get by amount of joy. No, He wants our joy to overflow.

Now you’re probably facing a situation in your life that makes you feel like joy is the farthest thing from your mind. Because it’s hard to come by joy most days. It’s easy to let the trouble of life cause you to want to give up and throw in the towel.

Today’s Truth: Joy Can Overflow Even When Things Don’t Look Good

But joy is possible even when things don’t look good on the outside. That’s because we can have joy in any situation and circumstance. We can know that no matter how hard things get, God loves us. He cares for us, and even if everyone has turned their backs on us, we can know His joy because He’s the one who has set us free, redeemed us and calls us loved when no one else does.

I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! – John 15:11 (NLT)

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Nehemiah 8:10

It might be hard to have much joy about the idea of going back to school. School isn’t always a lot of fun for everyone. But here’s the thing, even in the midst of the trial God is good. God helps us get through and gives us wisdom.

Remember even when you have hard days, God is good. His joy, grace, and peace are what you need to get through. You can do it. You can stand strong and keep your joy even on those days when it’s hard.

Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength. – Neh 8:10

Remember this verse. Remember that God loves you, and that He is giving you everything you need to succeed at school this year. Don’t give up or get discouraged. Keep your peace and know that He will see you through.

Today’s Truth: Don’t Give Up, God Will See You Through

God will see you through

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Ephesians 6:11

Standing up for your faith in the face of peer pressure is not easy. So this year, as you go back to school, take some time to prepare yourself.

What kinds of things do you think you’ll face? Then begin thinking of ways you can avoid them. Maybe it will be saying no to going to a certain party or gathering. Perhaps it is just strengthening yourself by reading scriptures now to help during school. Regardless, spend some time as you get ready to go back to school thinking through how you’ll stand for truth.

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. – Ephesians 6:11 (NIV)

Then begin to build yourself up. One of the most effective ways to do this is to read God’s word. Time spent in His word helps you stand strong so that you can stand up against the devil’s schemes.

But even if you’re faced with something you didn’t prepare for, you can know that you’re going to school with God’s help this year. You can rely on the Holy Spirit for creative ways and ideas to stand up for truth and say no to peer pressure. So don’t expect to give in this year. Instead choose to stand up and stand strong for God and the truth found in the Bible.

It’s getting to be back to school time. Sometimes that can feel overwhelming. Perhaps the idea of new classes or a new teacher seems scary to you. Maybe you just know that your faith will be tested and tried while you’re at school and it can make you not want to go back.

Regardless of how you feel, today’s Bible verse should help encourage you.
