Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Isaiah 44:24

Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: “I am the Lord, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself, – Isaiah 44:24 (NIV)

This is such a good reminder to us that God made all things. There isn’t a thing in creation that God didn’t make. And in Genesis, it tells us He made all things very good. As the God who made all things, it only makes sense that we should worship Him and Him only.

No other God or thing made the world we live in. Only God did.

It’s easy to get busy caught up in the things of life. We can allow our studies, our jobs, our friendships, and other activities to become really important in our lives. However, we always need to keep eternity in mind.

There is no other religion, no other way of life that fulfills like knowing Jesus. Life without God is not really life at all. So today, challenge yourself to think about God. Think about His wisdom in making the world and in making you. As part of His very good creation, it only makes sense that you would be fulfilled in relationship with Him. Determine that you are going to make knowing Him your priority. In reality, the truth is there is no one like God. Nothing fulfills like He does.

Today’s Truth: No one else is like God.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Isaiah 44:8

Do not tremble, do not be afraid.
    Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago?
You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me?
    No, there is no other Rock; I know not one.” – Isaiah 44:8 (NIV)

Have you ever thought about the idea that there is no other reliable source of salvation outside of God? Maybe you mentally agree to that idea. But what does it actually mean?

This verse speaks to the idea that nothing else in the world can compare to God. You could think your ability, strength, or hard work can really get you ahead in life, so maybe you trust in those things. But those things can become an idol if not put in the proper place. Of course the Bible encourages hard work, but if that’s what you trust in instead of God, it’s not in the proper place in your life. There is no other God. That means it is God alone in whom we should place our trust, not our own righteousness.

We can often be trapped into the thinking that having more things, doing better, and having fun are the end goals in life. But the truth is, those things often leave us empty and longing for something deeper. Life wasn’t made only for us to have fun. Life was created for us to know God.

God alone is whom we should build our lives upon. It’s not living with good character that matters, or living being kind to others. Yes, those are godly character traits, but if we make those things be our source of fulfillment and salvation, we’ve missed the mark. It is God alone who is our source of salvation. We couldn’t be enough, do enough, and we can’t trust our own works to bring us salvation.

Salvation is found in Christ alone. And it is upon Him that we build our trust and our lives. There is no other God besides Him.

Today’s Truth: God is the only one we should build our lives upon.

When we build our lives upon the rock of God it helps us live without fear. He is faithful and unchanging, even when we are not. It’s His faithfulness that helps us not fear in life, but rather trust in Him and His goodness to see us through.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Isaiah 44:6

“This is what the Lord says—
    Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty:
I am the first and I am the last;
    apart from me there is no God. – Isaiah 44:6 (NIV)

Today’s verse talks about God being first and last. Isn’t that interesting? It shows us that God is eternal. He created all things and will continue forever. Wow. What an amazing thing to spend some time thinking about. God is going to continue forever. Our life here on earth will one day end, but God never will stop existing. The good news is, if we have accepted Jesus as our savior, we will live with God forever.

What’s great about that is that God is unchanging, stable and true. So we don’t have to worry about His forgiveness one day and the next day we find out He has changed His mind. God is the same every day. He will remain the same for all eternity.

Knowing this helps erase fear. Once we put our trust in Him, we know that we can trust Him forever. We don’t have to fear eternity separated from Him. Instead, we can live our lives for Him in full confidence that He is the one true God. In Him we are secure when we trust in His unchanging nature.

Today’s Truth: We Should Trust in God Only

It can be easy in life to put trust in ourselves. We can think if I try harder, or work hard, then I can accomplish something great with my life. And while hard work is commendable, apart from Christ, it’s meaningless. Any work we do, anything we strive for should be in pursuit of Him. His call, His plan, His destiny.

Trusting God only is the more fulfilling way to live your life. So challenge yourself today to lay aside things that might hinder you from putting your trust in Him. Learn to trust in Him only, and seek to know Him each and every day.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Romans 1:20

For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God – Romans 1:20 (NLT)

When we’re talking about standing up and sharing your faith, it can be easy to feel like you need to have the most information or the most proof that God is real. That’s not the truth. It’s good to be armed with proof and information. However, it’s God’s word that will change people’s hearts.

So as you stand up, show evidence, and use God’s word, realize this last truth. In everyone’s heart, they know that God is real. Maybe they’ve gotten too busy and as a result, ignored God. Perhaps they’ve hardened their heart to Him due to circumstances or trouble. However, deep down, in their heart of hearts, they know that God is real.

Today’s verse says that God reveals Himself through creation and that people don’t have an excuse for not knowing God. That helps me when it comes to sharing my faith with others. I begin to see that I don’t have to know all the evidence for God. I don’t have to win every argument. Why? Because deep down, people know that God is real.

Go out today in boldness. Know that knowledge is important in sharing your faith, but what’s most important is sharing God’s word. The Bible has power to do what even the best argument can’t do, which is change hearts.

Today’s Truth: Deep down people know God is real.

So as you share your faith with others, know that the people you’re talking to know deep down that the message you’re sharing with them is the truth. They know the God of the Bible is real because we all desire a fulfilling relationship with Him.

Today as you go out and share your faith with others, believe that God will use you mightily. Know that God’s word is powerful to change people’s hearts, and don’t forget to listen to the Holy Spirit when you don’t know what to say. He will give you the words to say and help you share your faith boldly with others!

Pray: God I thank you for how real you are. I pray for the people around me that don’t know you. Help me find opportunities to share with them how real you are and how much you love them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Luke 10:41

But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, – Luke 10:41 (ESV)

In today’s Bible verse we see Jesus talking to Martha. She had tons of stuff to do and she felt as if she was all alone in getting it done. Her sister wasn’t helping her, but rather listening to Jesus. Martha had every right to be anxious. She had so many things going on and was probably under a lot of pressure.

You might feel like Martha did sometimes. The pressure to do good at school is weighing on you. You’re faced with lots of responsibilities and sometimes you might wonder if you’re really cut out to do it all.

The Bible says in Phippians 4:6 that we are to be anxious for nothing. That means that even when we are justified in our anxiety, we aren’t to become anxious. Instead, we are to rest in God’s peace. We can choose to walk in the peace of God even when things don’t look good around us.

Doing that isn’t always easy, but it is worth it. To start, begin taking some deep breaths to calm yourself down. Then think of a promise in God’s word that makes you happy. Anytime you feel yourself getting anxious take another deep breath and say a scripture to yourself. The more and more you do this, the easier it will be to walk in peace!

The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. – Genesis 2:15

Many of us are heading back to school this week or next week. And going back to school might be something you’re really excited about. Others, probably dread the idea of going back to tests, assignments, and schoolwork. Regardless of your feelings about school, we can try to look at school as a way we can be good stewards.

In the beginning, God placed Adam in the garden to take care of it. Basically, God gave Adam a purpose in taking care of the world God created. This calling God gave Adam also applies to us. Part of our job here on earth is to take care of God’s world.

So how does that tie in to school? Well, by learning about God’s world through the core subjects during school, you are really learning to take care of God’s world. The study of science can often help you understand God’s creation better. In learning more about God’s creation, God can show you ways that you can take care of His world. Learning history helps you learn where we are at in God’s timeline, and gain wisdom from the mistakes and victory of others throughout time.

School isn’t always going to be fun, but it is purposeful when you begin to realize that learning can help you take better care of God’s world. So as you start your school year, realize that God has called you to care for His world. As you study, begin to look for ways that you can help care for the world and others around you. Having that mindset will help you have a more purposeful year this school year.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Romans 3:23

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. – Romans 3:23-24 (NIV)

Today’s Bible verse shows us that none of us are excused from sin. We were born sinners. There’s no amount of trying or working that would get us out of our sinful state. Also, there’s no way that your good could ever outweigh your bad. It’s impossible to come to the father except through Jesus. That’s the bad news.

The good news is that Jesus didn’t leave us there. He gave us His own righteousness as a free gift.

The starting place of receiving this gift is to first understand that we are a sinner and desperately need His grace. Salvation is only possible when one knows they are a sinner and they completely throw their trust on Jesus.

Today, if you haven’t experienced the saving power of Jesus in your life, you can. You simply have to ask Jesus to be the Lord of your life. He will come in and save you, cleanse you and make you like new. Then you simply live out of your new nature in Him. You’ll want to spend time talking to God and getting to know Him on a deeper level.

Knowing Him is the best thing that God offers. When you know Jesus, and love Him, your life has meaning and purpose. So today, choose to live for Him in everything you do.

Pray: Jesus, thank you for saving me from my sin. I choose today to live for you. I won’t let anything get in my way of knowing you in a deep and real way. In your name, Amen.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 91:2

I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” – Psalm 91:2

I remember one time I went camping. Our shelter for the camping trip was a small tent. When we put it up, it was late at night, and I’m sure we missed a few steps during assembly. A few hours after we went to bed, we were awakened to loud thunder and heavy rain. Before we knew it, our bed, tent, sleeping bags, and clothing were soaked.

I sat there in the middle of the night wishing for a refuge or shelter. It was so cold and wet. I wanted nothing more for the night to be over and to be safe and dry. In life sometimes we face storms. Perhaps your parents split up, leaving you feeling confused and alone. Or maybe you feel that no one really gets you and you’re angry and hurt. Regardless of what difficulty you’re facing, the good news is that you’re not alone.

God is there to be your shelter and refuge in the storms of life. He wants to keep you safe and protect you from harm. So no matter how hard what you’re facing might seem you can be confident in God’s protection and love for you.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Romans 12:11

Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. – Romans 12:11 (NLT)

It’s so easy to get distracted. From getting engrossed in social media, video games, spending time with friends, or school work it’s so easy to get distracted and become detached from the things of God. Today’s Bible verse is a challenge to that. It tells us to live our lives wholeheartedly for God.

We are to work hard and serve God enthusiastically. Serving God shouldn’t be something we fit in on church day if we have the time or unless something better comes up. Serving God should be the way we live our lives.

And while technology and friends aren’t wrong, when we let them come in place of spending time with God, something is out of place. We should make serving God our priority and have fun doing it. It’s fun to bless someone in need. It’s fun to read the Bible and find an answer for a difficult situation that you’re facing. It’s fun to trust God and see Him come through for you. So purpose today to serve God wholeheartedly and enthusiastically.

 

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Acts 13:52

And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost. – Acts 13:52 (KJV)

The disciples had just experienced the leaders stirring up people against them. They had experienced people arguing against them and persecution.

If I was one of the disciples, I would have felt really discouraged. Here I am trying to do what God has called me to do and people are not being nice. They’re trying to run me out of the town. Talk about discouraging!

And yet, we’re told in Acts 13:52 that the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. Isn’t that interesting? That you can have joy that isn’t depending on everything perfectly in your life. You can have joy that comes from the Holy Spirit. In fact, joy is one of the fruits of the spirit named in Galatians 5.

That joy that the Holy Spirit brings isn’t joy that depends on everything going right in our lives. Instead, it comes from Him. Joy that comes from knowing the Holy Spirit is lasting joy. It doesn’t change depending on how we are treated and how our circumstances are. Instead, it’s steady because its based on the Holy Spirit.

So challenge yourself to live with an attitude of joy. That doesn’t mean things are going perfectly in your life. It means that you base your joy based on knowing the Holy Spirit, not on people, circumstances or things. And that’s how the disciples could have joy even when things weren’t going well for them.
