Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Acts 17:27

Have you ever given any thought to the idea of evolution? Many schools teach evolution, and many of us probably just accept it as taught in our textbooks. We’ve just studied for the science test, learned the things from the book we needed to pass, and moved on with our lives.

There is a problem, however, with believing in evolution. It’s this, it robs us of our purpose in life.

The Bible tells us that we were created. And we weren’t created, then left alone to figure life out by ourselves. No, God created us for a purpose.

And while the details of that specific purpose (destiny or job) will be different for each of us, the main reason we were created is to get to know God.

God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. – Acts 17:27 (NLT)

God created us to seek Him. And if we spend our lives doing anything else, we will always feel unfulfilled. Why? Because we aren’t living out our real purpose, which is seeking God.

If you seek fulfillment and purpose for your life, determine to spend time seeking God. Learn about Him and realize that He created you for a purpose. As you spend time with Him, He will show you and teach you what that is.

So don’t believe the lie in the world today that you evolved. No, your life has a purpose. You have meaning. You were created to seek after God!

Today’s Truth: I am created for a purpose.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Joshua 8:1

It’s so easy to give in to fear. You can do it without even trying. And if you don’t learn to stop fear, eventually, it will stop you.

When I was a teenager, I was afraid of rejection. Instead of having friends reject me, I’d hide in the bathroom at lunch. I was afraid that no one would want to eat with me. So instead of being in the cafeteria, I’d hide in the restroom until lunch was over. Fear stopped me.

Instead of trying to make friends, I decided that I’d let the fear of rejection be the stronger voice in my life. As a result, I was often sad and lonely.

Today’s Truth: You can say “no” to fear

Fear in any area of your life will try to stop you. It will stop you from making friends, taking risks, and sharing your faith. So today, determine to say “no” to fear. Begin to step out, even when you’re afraid. Don’t let fear have the final say in your life!

Instead, be like Joshua. Be strong, don’t fear, and see God come through for you in a mighty way.

Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid or discouraged. Take all your fighting men and attack Ai, for I have given you the king of Ai, his people, his town, and his land. – Joshua 8:1 (NLT)

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Jeremiah 13:10

These wicked people, who refuse to listen to my words, who follow the stubbornness of their hearts and go after other gods to serve and worship them, will be like this belt—completely useless! – Jeremiah 13:10 (NIV)

Have you ever had times when you didn’t want to hear God’s leading? I know I sure have. I enjoy watching TV. There was a TV show that I had been watching that kept me very fearful. The problem was, I really liked the show. However, I felt like I needed to give up watching the show because I was having trouble sleeping at night because I was so fearful after watching it.

I struggled with stopping the show, but in the end, I did stop watching it. After a few weeks, it wasn’t really difficult. I didn’t even miss the show, and the best part was, I wasn’t fearful at night anymore.

Often, we can not want to listen to God’s leading. Whether it’s a TV show, or some area of our lives that we feel God challenging us in. We can want to ignore that leading and to do our own thing. Usually, that doesn’t bring good results into our lives.

Today’s verse tells what people are like when they go after things other than God. So today, challenge yourself to follow after God. Determine to let His voice have the final say in your life. You’ll be glad that you did.

Today’s Truth: Be open to hear God’s Leading

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 23:4

It’s so easy to be afraid. We just have to see things going on in our world and the next thing we know, fear is gripping our hearts. With everything going on in the world, there are lots of good reasons to be afraid. But even if our fear is totally justified, we have to be on guard against it.

If we’re not careful, fear will chip away at our faith in God. If we focus totally on all the scary things in the world right now, they can begin to seem even bigger than God.

Our goal should be to not let ourselves focus on fear so much that it becomes magnified in our lives.

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. – Psalm 23:4 (NLT)

We are walking through tough times right now. But we’ve got to choose to look to God in the midst of difficulty. We can’t magnify fear to the point that we forget God. God promises to be with us, to protect us and comfort us in the middle of our fear.

So today, choose to not magnify fear in your life. Instead, place your focus on God, on His promises, and know that He will be with you in trouble.

Fear

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 34:4

Fear is something I’ve battled my entire life. One of my biggest fears is the fear of people. I hate letting people down. As a perfectionist, I work hard to make sure that I keep all my plates spinning and everyone happy. However, living with the fear of people is honestly exhausting.

God has been dealing with me lately about the fear of people. I know that He wants freedom for me. Fear in any form is bondage. It keeps you from experiencing the good things that God has for you.

I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. – Psalm 34:4 (NLT)

So, if fear has bound you, do what today’s verse says. Pray to God. Ask Him for help in dealing with your fear. God wants to free you. He wants you to walk in His love and abundance. Don’t let fear hold you captive any longer. Walk free from fear today.

Psalm 34:4 teen devotion

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 2 Corinthians 4:16

That is why we are not discouraged. Though outwardly we are wearing out, inwardly we are renewed day by day. – 2 Corinthians 4:16

It can be so easy to get discouraged in life. Life can be hard at times. Sometimes we face difficulties and situations that push us to our limits. So when we’re in the middle of those tough times, how can we keep ourselves encouraged?

One of the best ways to encourage yourself is to get some eternal perspective on your situation. That’s what today’s Bible verse offers us. We see in this verse that the things we face are only temporary. Our bodies are wearing out and one day we will no longer face the challenges of this life here on Earth. However, we do have hope. Our spirit, the real us, is being renewed day by day.

Today’s Truth: Jesus didn’t leave us Without HOPE!

So even though the situations we face seem really big and really tough, we don’t have to be discouraged by what we face. We take comfort in the fact that what we face is only temporary. In our struggles, we get the opportunity to grow in our knowledge of Jesus. We realize that He can’t go back on His promises and He will never leave us without help.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Genesis 50:20

Do you ever go through difficult seasons in your life, and really wish that you could get out of them? I remember hating the drama in my middle school so much. I wanted nothing more than to escape all of it and be done with school.

However, the drama and difficulties I experienced in middle school help me in life now. Because I was left out many times, I try to find people that not everyone notices and include them. The exclusion I experienced in middle school helps me in life now.

Joesph had a similar attitude in Genesis 50.

You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. – Genesis 50:20 (NLT)

Joseph went through some pretty bad situations. However, he didn’t allow himself to get bitter about things or even to give up and begin to dislike people. Instead, he realized that those tough times he went through helped him in the future.

Right now, you might be facing difficulty. Don’t give up. Don’t be discouraged. God will see you through. When you come out on the other side of this season, you’ll be stronger and will have learned something that will help you later in life.

Stay close to God and know that He will always see you through the difficult seasons because He loves you.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Jeremiah 7:23

but I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you. – Jeremiah 7:23 (NIV)

Sometimes the idea of obeying just seems like no fun. As a young person it can feel like people are always telling you what to do and you just want the chance to call the shots. Today’s Bible verse talks a lot about obedience, which doesn’t always feel like much fun to talk about.

But have you ever looked at obedience as a good thing? For example, I once did an assignment at school. I had heard the instructions and requirements from the teacher, but I just forgot a few of the details. Then I didn’t look at the example that was handed out of how we should do the assignment. So I turned in my assignment when it was due, but because I hadn’t obeyed the instructions, I ended up not getting that good of a grade on it.

Obeying can feel like a chore, but maybe that’s because we’re looking at it the wrong way. What if we looked at obeying God as a privilege? When we obey what God asks of us, it always brings good things. So instead of feeling bad about obeying, what if we looked at it as a good thing with awesome benefits attached?

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Romans 6:6

We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. – Romans 6:6 (NLT)

Jesus came to bring us freedom. That’s good news. Sin no longer has power in our lives.

Sin doesn’t have to hold us back. Our shame, mistakes, and shortcomings are no longer things that keep us from God. We can live in total freedom in every area of our lives.

It’s up to us then to live in that freedom every day. When thoughts come to us that tell us we’re not important or that we’re worthless, we’ve got to realize those thoughts aren’t the truth. God’s word is truth. And the truth found in God’s word is that you’re free from sin in every area.

Sin no longer has to hold you back. So walk in the freedom Jesus has provided for you. Determine to let the truth in God’s word be more real to you than any other thought, feeling, or idea that you might have. When you have those thoughts make them line up with what God’s word says. God’s word is truth, and when you believe it, it will cause you to have freedom in every area of your life.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 1 John 3:2

Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. – 1 John 3:2

It is easy to begin feeling bad about yourself. You start to look at what other people have, or the things they say and wonder, what is wrong with me? Why can’t I look like that, or say those funny things that make everyone laugh. If you’re not careful, you can begin to really get down on yourself.

So on those days when you really feel like you’re just not likable, or  when you feel like you’ve really messed up again, begin thinking about today’s Bible verse. This verse shows us a powerful truth, that we are children of God. It doesn’t tell us that we’re trying to become God’s children, or that one day we will be God’s children. No, it tells us that we are God’s children now. That means we don’t have to do anything or change anything to become God’s child. Its something you already have.

So as you go about doing all the things you do today, remember what today’s verse says. Remember that you are God’s child. That means a lot! That means that you’re important to God and that He’s got great plans for your life. So don’t get discouraged. Choose to dwell on the truths found in today’s Bible verse and begin seeings yourself like God sees you, as His child.
