Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Malachi 3:1

“I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the LORD Almighty. – Malachi 3:1 (NIV)

The Bible prophecies that show us Jesus are so interesting. Today’s verse talks about two different messengers. The first it speaks about is one that will prepare the way. The second is one who will come to his temple. We can just read this and not really realize how special this verse is.

The first messenger here is a prophecy of John the Baptist. Malachi was written long before John was born. There was a gap of around 400 years between when the book of Malachi ends the Old Testament and the New Testament when we begin to see the accounts of John the Baptist and Jesus being born.

Isn’t that amazing? Hundreds of years before John was born, God knew he was coming. And a prophecy of John’s life was written down. Think about that. What are the chances that someone hundreds of years before would know that John would be the messenger that prepared the way for Jesus? (Mark 1:2)

It just shows us that God has a plan. He loved us so much that He brought a plan of salvation for us through the person of Jesus. Hundreds of years before Jesus was even born, God was giving us glimpses of what Jesus would be like. Prophecies like these just help us realize how amazing and true the word of God is. That years and years before something happens, God knew and was planning it out in His mind.

We can trust the Word of God because it accurately predicts the future.

So today, you might be wondering about your future. You might wonder if things will be okay or if God has good things in store for you. Today be encouraged. Just like God had a plan in the past, He still has a plan today. Take time to get to know God, and spend time in His word. The more you do, the more you’ll know Him and walk out the good things He has for you.
