he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. – Titus 3:5

A friend of mine was riding his bike one time and turned sharply. His bike slid to where he was almost parallel to the cement. His legs were pinned under the bike and the only thing that kept his face from being cut up was the part of his helmet that stuck out a little bit.

He jumped up, and said, “I’m ok, my helmet saved me.”

Helmets can really help when it comes to riding a bike. My friend made a dumb decision to ride his bike dangerously and thankfully his face was saved from getting cut up because of his helmet. Jesus is a little like that. He’s saved us from the hurt and the pain that we deserved. We’ve made lots of stupid decisions. We’ve messed up more times than we can count. On our own, we don’t deserve heaven.

The good news is that God didn’t see only our failures and shortcomings. He saw an opportunity to display His great love. He didn’t leave us to be scraped up and beaten down by life. Instead, He did what only He could do. He came down to us. God paid the ultimate price for our sins and now we have been given new life and new birth in Christ.

Today’s Truth: When God saw us, He saw an opportunity to display His great love.

I have a friend that has a puppy. When my friend got her dog he was so small and cute. I didn’t see the puppy for a month or two and when I did, I couldn’t believe the transformation. My friend’s dog was huge! He had really grown. With several months of feeding and good care, my friend’s dog had gotten big.

Like my friend’s puppy, when you feed something, it will grow.

When it comes to the things of God, we sometimes don’t take the time to feed them. Instead, we fill our lives up with friends, sports and video games. None of those things are bad, however, they don’t do anything to feed your faith. Just like a dog, your faith needs to be fed to grow.

Today’s Challenge: What will you do today to grow your faith?

Teen Devotion to Grow Your FaithIf you want to do the things God is stirring in your heart to do, you’re going to have to begin to grow your faith. God isn’t going to call you to do something you can do by yourself. So it’s going to take faith to stick it out and see it through.

To grow your faith, you’ve got to spend time digging into God’s word. You might begin by watching some YouTube videos, reading devotions from our website, or downloading the Bible app. It doesn’t matter how you do it, what matters is that you’re making a conscious effort each day to grow your faith.

Determine today that you are going to spend time in God’s word and grow your faith!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Hebrews 1:2

but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. – Hebrews 1:2 (NIV)

How do you like to talk to your friends? The way you communicate tells about you.

God communicates to us too. He decided to speak to us through His son, Jesus. So when we see what Jesus did in the Bible, we can learn about the character of God.

One of the things that Jesus communicated so well was love. We see time and time again in the gospels that He was moved with compassion. He always had compassion on the crowd and met their needs. So why do we doubt that He is any different today?

God communicates His love for us through the person of Jesus. He shows us that He is for us. God wants to love you and help you live out your life here on this earth. So if you’ve ever doubted God’s love for you, be encouraged. God loves you, and He is for you. He wants the best for you. Ask Him to show you His love for you.

As we get closer to celebrating Thanksgiving this week, be sure to thank God for His love for you and for being willing to communicate with us through Jesus.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Hebrews 1:1

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways – Hebrews 1:1 (NIV)

At school, I always spoke to my friends. I went out of my way to find them in the halls between classes. It was fun to update them on what was going on in my life, what I was thinking about, and in return, hear about them. Talking to friends is really fun.

I like talking to friends. However, I don’t usually speak to people I don’t know that much. Of course I can, if the situation calls for it. I can ask the worker in a store for help finding something, or ask someone I don’t know how to get somewhere at a new place.

However, the majority of my communication is with friends. When I talk, it’s with the people I know and I love. I don’t think God is all that different from us. God communicates with people because He loves them. God began communicating with people in the Garden of Eden. Then throughout history, He has continued to speak to people. Even when we hadn’t deserved it, God still continued to speak and to make Himself known.

God spoke in the Old Testament in so many different ways. He spoke through prophets, through the law, through a burning bush, through a still small voice, and many other ways. In the first chapter of Hebrews we see that God still speaks to us today. We’ll discuss that more in another devotion. However, we can realize that God still speaks to people.

God speaking to people shows His love for them. He isn’t a god that is far off and can’t be known. Instead, He is the God that speaks and reveals himself to us. What a wonderful gift we have to be able to know the creator God. Take some time today to thank God for the fact that He is speaking to us still today.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Colossians 2:7

Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. – Colossians 2:7 (NLT)

Being thankful right now is probably the last thing on your mind. It feels like there’s so many things going on that can make us feel unthankful.

However, even in the middle of trouble, we can remind ourselves of our roots. Our roots are in Jesus. And if we’ve built our lives on him, then we have something to be thankful for.

Even if things seem hard right now, you can be thankful that you know Jesus. You have salvation in Him. Forgiveness is found in Him. No matter what you’re going through, you have a savior who is there by your side.

That is something to be thankful for. So even when you feel alone. Even when you feel mistreated, know that you’ve got roots in Jesus.

Jesus is there for you, leading you, keeping you. He’s guiding you through whatever you’re facing. No matter what, you can be thankful for your roots in Jesus!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 106:1

Praise the LORD! Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. – Psalm 106:1 (NLT)

Regardless of the difficulty facing you right now, you can give thanks to the Lord. You might think, yeah, but you don’t understand. I’m going through something really tough. I don’t even know if I can make it to tomorrow, let alone give thanks to God.

And it’s true, there are some seasons of life that are really tough. However, even in those rough seasons, we can get help, strength and encouragement simply by praising God.

This morning, I woke up in such a bad mood. I wanted to scream at my entire family. Everything they did made me so mad. So after breakfast, I began to sing. I sang praise songs at the top of my lungs. My family probably thought I was nuts. However, it did something for me.

The stress I was facing didn’t seem as bad. The anger I had didn’t seem nearly as important. Simply because I had taken some time to sing and thank God.

There is power in practicing praise and thankfulness. So even if you don’t feel like it, determine to be thankful and praise God today. It will help strengthen and encourage you to get through the difficulty you’re facing.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 1 John 3:8

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. – 1 John 3:18 (NIV)

It can be really easy to say the “right” things. If someone asked you the question, ‘should you lie?’, you know what the “right” answer is. However, when you’re in a pinch and lying will help you look better, or get out of trouble, what do you do?

Today’s Bible verse is talking about this very thing. It’s telling us that not only saying something matters, it’s also about what you do.

If you say you love other people, but aren’t friendly to the new student, or help encourage the student being bullied, you’re loving people with words, but not with action. Loving someone with action and truth takes guts. It asks you to step beyond what seems comfortable to do what is right. That is what today’s Bible verse challenges us to do.

Today’s Challenge: Will you step beyond what is comfortable, to do what is right?

Daily Devotion with Bible Verse – Philippians 3:10

What are some of your goals? Do you want to get married one day? Have a successful job or business? What are some of the goals that are driving your life?

In today’s Bible verse, we see that Paul’s goal was to know Jesus and His power. He didn’t want to just fake having a relationship with God. Paul. Paul studied the Bible and knew God in a real way.

He truly accomplished this goal of knowing Jesus because not only did he know the truth, but he applied it to his everyday life. And grew in his knowledge of God and the Bible.

Today will you also make it your goal to know Him and His power? Get into what the Bible has to say about Jesus. Primarily, get to know what happened to Jesus and what that sacrifice has done for us. As you do, you’ll begin to know Him more and the power of His resurrection.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Proverbs 17:17

I have always been competitive. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be the best and strived to do better. Give me a game and I’ll try to win it. Give me a challenge and I’ll try to figure it out. That’s just the way God has wired me. And so when it came to friends, my challenge was always to find a more popular friend.

If a friend liked me and wanted to hang out, I was excited. However, I was always very cautious about not hanging around the people who might make me not look as good. In hindsight, I realized that in my need to be more popular, I missed out on a lot of great friends.

Today’s Truth – Choose Friends That Choose You

My whole life, I’ve constantly tried to pursue friends that didn’t really care about me. I wanted to have a more popular friend so I’d try to hang out with people that were more popular than I was. What I didn’t realize I was doing was turning my back on some great friendships in the process.

Often, I’d try to be friends with people that didn’t really care about me. Yeah, they were nice and fun people, but deep down they didn’t really care about me.

I’ve come to realize that instead of pursuing popularity, I should be pursuing relationships with people who care about me.

A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need. – Proverbs 17:17 (NLT)

God wants us to have good relationships with others. But if you’re constantly pursuing relationships that aren’t healthy or with others who don’t really care about you, you’re always going to be disappointed. Instead, decide to pursue relationships with people who like you for you.

You’ll be much happier and you’ll find relationships that fulfill you and truly last!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Ephesians 4:29

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. – Ephesians 4:29

Do you struggle with speaking life-giving words? Do you find yourself always speaking poorly of yourself? Maybe you feel like you’ll never understand algebra and so you say, I’m never going to get this…I’m so dumb.

It’s so easy to fall into negative speech patterns. We let words fly out of our mouths without giving them any attention. However, when we do that, it can bring some negative effects.

Instead, we should be speaking life-giving words over ourselves and others. When we speak words of encouragement and life it’s when we really see good things happen. Decide today to put a priority on speaking words that build yourself and others up. You’ll be encouraged at the good things that follow.
