Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Proverbs 4:20

Devotion for Teens - God's Word

My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words – Proverbs 4:20 (NLT)

Have you ever been guilty of not paying attention? Maybe your mom was talking to you, but you tuned her out and were thinking about how after dinner you got to go play Fortnite. And even though you didn’t really mean to, you missed most of what she was saying because you mind was focused on something else.

It’s really easy to do the same thing to God. Perhaps you have heard the Bible verse being preached at church hundreds of times and so you sort of zone out. Or maybe you know what the Bible says to do, but you don’t really want to do it because it’s hard so you try not to think about it.

Paying attention to God’s word takes work. It takes a focused effort on your behalf, especially because there are so many things calling for your attention. Focusing on God’s word is really worth it. Many of the answers you need can be found in prayer and study of the Bible. If you need wisdom on how to deal with a difficult person, the Bible has your answer. So instead of turning out those old verses that you’ve heard millions of times, try instead asking God to make it fresh and new to you. Ask Him to show you something new that you haven’t seen in the verse. Or ask Him for wisdom on how to apply what you’re reading to your life.

If you pay attention to God’s word, you’ll see good results in your life. So put in the effort that it takes to spend time in the Bible.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 1 Peter 5:7

Teen Bible Verse and Devotion

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. – 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)

God wants you to live a life free from worry. But that’s a lot harder to do than you might think. It’s really easy to want to take the concerns of life on yourself. Maybe you’re stressed about getting into the right college. Or you’re worried that your mom might get mad at you if you tell her how you did on your math final.

It’s so easy to take the worries and cares of life on yourself. When you do that, you make yourself unhappy and stressed out. You weren’t built to handle the stress of life on your own. It’s something that you weren’t made to carry.

So take those things that concern you to God every day. Let Him help you carry your concerns and worries. Put those things on Him and let Him deal with them. You aren’t built to carry them and you don’t need to. So put your trust in God and know that He is fighting for you. Do your best and trust God to do the rest!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Romans 12:11

Daily Bible Verse on Purpose Romans 12:1

Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.- Romans 12:11 (NLT)

Don’t you wish you could just get good at something? Take playing an instrument for example. Don’t you wish you could just pick up some drumsticks and automatically be good enough to play for an awesome band? The frustrating thing about most things in life is that you’ve got to work at them.

If you want to be good at something, you’ve got to cultivate it.

The same is true with your purpose. If you’re going to really be good at something or achieve something you’ve got to cultivate it.

Today’s Takeaway: Purpose Can Be Cultivated

If you want to get better at something you’ve got to cultivate it. It might be reading books about your interests or watching tons of YouTube videos. It might be going and taking lessons.

The key is that to get good at something it just doesn’t happen automatically. You’ve got to work it.

Today’s Challenge: How Will You Cultivate Your Purpose?

What are you going to do today to cultivate your purpose? What are some practical ways you can get better at the dream God has put into your heart? Don’t be afraid to ask for help!

Daily Devotion and Bible Verse – Psalm 103:12

He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. – Psalm 103:12 (NLT)

When Jesus was on the cross, he was removing our sins. The Bible says in today’s verse that He removed them as far as the east is from the west. That means your sin is no longer able to be found. Jesus removed our sins totally and completely. We are now able to go to the father as though our sin never existed.

That is good news. No longer does sin hold us back. We don’t have to feel bad or condemned. Rather, we can walk in the freedom Jesus has provided for us, knowing that we have been made right with God.

So today, you can easily feel like things aren’t going the way you’d like them to. You might feel that life hasn’t been fair or easy. But also, realize that Jesus has provided you with everything that you need. He has taken your sins away. So far away that they can’t be found anymore. So don’t get discouraged. Yes, life isn’t perfect, but the good news is that Jesus has done the thing that really matters. He’s taken our sin away.

We can enjoy fellowship with God now. So regardless of how difficult things seem right now, you have something to be thankful for. You’re forgiven and your sins have been removed. Take time to thank God for that today!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Hebrews 11:9

Teen Devotion and Bible Verse on Purpose Requiring ActionAnd even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith—for he was like a foreigner, living in tents. And so did Isaac and Jacob, who inherited the same promise. – Hebrews 11:9 (NLT)

Can you imagine what would have happened if Abraham in the Bible had never left his country? What would the story Israel look like if heroes like Abraham hadn’t stepped out in faith and put action to what God was telling them to do?

If you want to do something big for God, it’s going to require you to take action.

You can daydream amazing things. You can get excited about things that you’d like the future to hold for you. In fact, you can even pray about God’s play for your life, but if you don’t take action on those things, you won’t end up doing anything for God.

Today’s Take Away: Purpose Requires Action

All the heroes in the Bible that did great things for God had to do something about the things that were in their heart. They had to give action to the dreams and desires that God gave them.

Noah had to build an ark, Abraham had to move to a new country. Rahab had to put a red cord in her window. All these amazing men and women of God and they all had to do something.

So what about you? What has God put on your heart? What dreams do you want to see accomplished in your life? Think about those things and then determine to do something about them. Choose to take small steps toward them happening in your life. Determine to put action toward finding your purpose.

If you’re not sure where to start, ask God for help. He can show you what to do and where to go. Know that God desires to see you find your purpose!

Sometimes, people aren’t nice to us. They do mean things, let us down, and just don’t get us. Sometimes, after we’ve been let down by people so much, we start to think that God is the same way.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that maybe God doesn’t really love us. Or perhaps, we wonder if He really does have a purpose for our lives. The truth is, God does love you. He does have good things in store for your life.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 1 Peter 5:7

Do you worry? I know I do. Way more than I should. And about things that aren’t really important. Yet sometimes, it’s hard to really trust that God will indeed take care of everything we need.

I worry most when my friends don’t treat me right. I wonder if things will work out, and wish sometimes I could change things I said or did. However, I know that worry isn’t right. When I worry, it means that I don’t really trust God.

If I trusted that God would bring me the friends I needed, then I wouldn’t worry if someone got upset at something I said. That’s not to say that I say mean things, or be unkind. But the truth is, if I trusted God fully, then I wouldn’t be concerned about what others thought of the things I said, the things I wear, or the things I do. Instead, I’d be looking to God only for approval.

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. – 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)

Today’s Bible verse says to give all our worries to God. That means worry about friends, family, food, or any other area in our lives. When we realize that we can go to God, pray and get the answers we need, then we don’t need to be concerned about anything. God is willing and able to supply any need that comes up in our lives. We just have to be bold enough to believe Him and take Him at His word.

So today, challenge yourself to give your worries to God. Know that He cares for you, and is ready to bring you the solutions to everything you face.

Pray: God, I thank you that you have the solution to every problem that I face. I choose today to look to you. I give my cares to you and know that you will see me through in every area of my life. Amen.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Exodus 5:2

Have you ever had someone give you a lot of trouble because you believed in God? Maybe a friend at school makes fun of you because of your belief. Or perhaps a co-worker at your job is always poking fun at your faith. What do you do when it feels like the people around you don’t take God seriously, and give you trouble because you do?

Let’s look at what Moses had to deal with in Exodus 5:2.

Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go.” – Exodus 5:2 (NIV)

Moses asked Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go. And Pharaoh was like, who is God? Why should I obey what He says? Because Pharaoh didn’t believe in God, it made it hard for him to believe what Moses said about God.

The same is true for the people in our lives. Many of them don’t believe in God, or know God, so they have difficulty believing and obeying what He says. So what happened next? Well things actually got a lot worse for the Israelites. Pharaoh made their lives more difficult and gave them harder work to do.

And that happens to us too, doesn’t it? When someone knows we believe in God, they often try to target us. They seem to make more fun of us or give us a rougher time. But here’s the truth, like Moses, we have to trust that the end will turn out okay.

Eventually, the nation of Israel was able to leave slavery in Egypt. And you can expect the same too. Usually, if you give people enough time, and enough grace, they will respect you for your stand of faith. And even if they don’t, know that God sees your stand and will reward you in the end.

So today, take some time to pray for those who give you difficulty for your faith. Know that in the end, you will be rewarded for your stand, and stand firm in the midst of it all.

Pray: God help me to love those that give me trouble for my faith. Help me to stand firm in the midst of it all and be a witness for you! Amen.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Exodus 3:15

God said moreover to Moses, “You shall tell the children of Israel this, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations. – Exodus 3:15 (WEB)

Do you ever wonder what you’ll say to people when you talk to them about Jesus? Do you ever struggle with sharing your God-given dreams with others or your faith with others because you wonder what they will think of you?

If so, you’re not alone. Moses had a lot of questions for God too. He doubted himself. Moses asked many questions of God to find out what God was going to call him to do.

Questions are natural. When God calls you or asks you to do something, it’s only natural to have questions. But where do you take those questions? Do you go to God? Or do you begin to ask others?

In this account, Moses took his questions to God. He asked God what he should say, he questioned his ability to speak, all sorts of things. But in spite of his questions, he obeyed God. He went to Pharoah and spoke to him. That had to take some guts. Here he was, a man who had run away, and was now facing Pharoah and asking for something that was seemingly impossible. Wow!

So, if God has called you to do something bigger than you, that’s ok. It’s okay to have questions too. Just go to God to find the answers, and obey regardless of your limitations. It’s in doing that, that you’ll find you have the empowerment to do what God has called you to do.

Pray: God help me to do what you’ve called me to do. I know I can’t do it myself, but I know you’ll tell me what to say and tell me what to do each step of the way, if I’ll trust you. I choose to do that. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Exodus 3:12

And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.”- Exodus 3:12 (NIV)

Have you ever felt alone in facing something big? It’s easy to feel that way when you’re facing a situation that seems really tough, or when facing something that seems just too hard. But here’s the truth. Just like Moses, you’re not alone.

God has not left you alone or helpless. You have everything you need to do what He is calling you to do. What’s more, you have God himself with you. That’s good news.

You’re not alone. You’ve got God himself there ready to help you each step of the way. Just trust Him. Expect Him to move in miraculous ways. Trust God and put your faith in Him, and you’ll see God help you do the impossible, just like He did with Moses.

Today’s Truth: You’re not alone. With God you can do the impossible!
