Luke 10:39 says, “She sat at Jesus’ feet and listened to what he said.”
Mary chose something interesting in today’s Bible verse. She chose to be close, attentive, and fully present with Jesus. That goes against our modern culture that values doing things and being busy. Sitting at the feet of Jesus and listening would be a very different posture.
For teens, life can feel nonstop: homework, sports, jobs, friends, and screens competing for attention. Like Mary, we’re invited to stop being busy and simply listen. Sitting at Jesus’ feet isn’t only physical; it’s an attitude. It means setting aside the rush, and letting Jesus speak to our hearts.
Today’s Truth: Choosing to sit and listen to Jesus is the best choice—you grow closer to Him and become wise in your decisions.
This posture changes priorities. Martha was busy serving, and her work mattered, but Jesus pointed out that Mary had chosen the “better part.” Listening to Jesus reshapes how we live—it gives us wisdom for decisions, peace in stress, and courage when we’re pressured to fit in. When we practice being present with Jesus, we learn to filter our choices through His voice rather than the world’s noise.
Try this: carve out 10 minutes today. Find a quiet spot, read a short Bible passage, and sit—no checklist, no multitasking. Ask Jesus a question you’re wrestling with, then listen. You may journal what comes to mind, or just rest in His presence. Over time, this habit trains your heart to recognize Jesus’ voice in the busyness.
Prayer Jesus, help me to stop long enough to sit at Your feet. Teach me to listen and to choose You over my to-do list. Amen.
