Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. – Isaiah 7:14 (NIV)
I remember a time at school when we were asked to make predictions. They wanted us to predict what the future would look like in 20 years. Then they had each of us write those things down on paper. It makes me wonder if anything written down on paper came true even a few years later.
And yet, in today’s Bible verse, we see that Isaiah prophesied about the coming messiah. And this wasn’t 20 years before He came, it was around 700 years before Jesus showed up on this earth. Think about how amazing that is!
Isaiah also prophesied some things that would be really hard to make happen. The fact that a virgin would conceive is very much impossible. Yet, 700 years before it happened, Isaiah was prophesying that it would. The way that God spoke to Isaiah and told Him what would happen years and years before it did is so amazing.
It just speaks to the truth found in God’s word. The Bible is reliable in what it speaks about. From prophesying about the coming messiah to any promise you find in the Word, you know you can count on it happening. Often, it happens a lot slower than we’d like, but the promises of God are secure. We can count on them.
So today, encourage yourself that God’s word is trustworthy. Just like it foretold the coming of Jesus hundreds of years before it happened, you can count on any promise in God’s word as truth. Challenge yourself today to rely and believe God’s word above all else.
