Lord, I have heard of your fame;
I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord.
Repeat them in our day,
in our time make them known;
in wrath remember mercy. – Habakkuk 3:2 (NIV)
One of the most interesting things about the book of Habakkuk is that Habakkuk stood before God with raw honesty. He had seen trouble, heard reports of violence and injustice, and felt overwhelmed. Instead of pretending everything was fine, he brought his questions to God. Habakkuk 3:2 captures his prayerful posture: “Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds. In our time make them known; in our time, bring them to life. In wrath remember mercy.” He remembered who God is and asked God to move now.
Life can feel chaotic: you face pressure at school, friendship drama, uncertainty about your future. Like Habakkuk, we can be tempted to doubt whether God sees or cares. But Habakkuk’s prayer shows a better response: remember God’s character, be honest about your fears, and ask God to act now. This prayer isn’t passive. It’s full of faith — believing that God’s past faithfulness shows us His future faithfulness.
What are some things you can do today to help yourself remember these things? First, remind yourself of God’s works. Read a Bible story that shows God’s power and mercy. Second, be honest in prayer — name your fears and frustrations. Last, ask God to show Himself in your life today: in your school, family, or friendships.
So today, remember, God’s reputation isn’t only history — it’s power for now. When you are honest and bring your needs to Him, you invite His mighty, merciful presence into your life. Trust that the God who acted before will act today. Pray like Habakkuk: remember, be real, and ask God to show His mercy now.
