Then they sweep past like the wind and go on—
guilty people, whose own strength is their god.” – Habakkuk 1:11 (NIV)
I find it interesting the different things that we can put in place of God in our lives. In this verse, it talks about how the Babylonians put their trust in their own strength. They relied on themselves. And it was working for them. They were strong and conquered lots of peoples.
However, they trusted in their own strength. That is not a good place to be in.
God always wants us to rely and trust in Him. When we put too much emphasis on ourselves and what we can do and our own strength, we always will come up short. Our trust and strength should always come from God. It’s Him and Him alone where we should place our trust.
So today, if you’ve been guilty of relying on yourself and what you can do, realize that God wants you to trust Him. Lean on Him, His word, and His strength. As you do, you’ll see that it’s by trusting Him that good things come to pass in your life.
