Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 1 Corinthians 10:24

A low self-esteem can really be an issue for many young people. Low self-esteem often stems from thinking our worth is based on how others treat us, or how we feel about ourselves. Instead, we should look to God and see what He says about us.

The limiting thing about a low self-esteem is that it causes us to think a lot about ourselves. This isn’t healthy. It’s easy to focus so much on how we’re not accepted by others, or how we don’t like something about us, that it causes us to become self-centered. Being self-centered is not God’s best for your life.

Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others. – 1 Corinthians 10:24 (NLT)

Today’s Bible verse is a challenge to that. It tells us that we shouldn’t be so focused on ourselves that we forget about other people. One great way to help yourself overcome a low self-esteem is to spend some time helping out others.

This is helpful because it takes the focus off of ourselves and puts the focus on others. We are to be light to those around us. We should be looking to help others and lead them to Jesus. If we’re so consumed with our failures, shortcomings, and insecurities that we forget to help others, it puts us in a bad spot.

God put value on you so that you could be a blessing to others and fulfill the good plan He has for you. So if you’ve become internally focused choose to adjust your focus. Get out of yourself and help those around you. As you do, it will help boost your self-esteem.
