Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Daniel 9:2

There can be times when it can really feel tough forcing yourself to read your Bible. You might rather watch some TV, or talk to a friend, and finding time to work in some Bible reading time can seem more like a chore than a blessing.

However, there are benefits to reading your Bible. One of the great ones is that reading your Bible gives you understanding.

in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years. – Daniel 9:2 (NIV)

Because Daniel read the scriptures, he began to realize the time it was in history. He began to get an understanding of the time he was living in since he was living during the 70-year period Jeremiah had described.

The same is true for us. As we read God’s word, we get understanding. When we don’t know what to do, we can begin to read the Bible and it always seems like God gives us the wisdom that we need to know the next step. When we struggle with making a decision, often reading the Bible can give us the understanding we need to make a wise choice.

So today, take time, even if it feels like work to get into the Bible. Read the scriptures and see what God is wanting to speak into your life and your situation.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 2 Timothy 3:15

You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.  – 2 Timothy 3:15 (NLT)

Have you ever wondered why you should read your Bible? Do you ever think that it’s a lot of work to read it and that maybe it’s not really all that important? If so, you’re probably like most teenagers. Reading the Bible takes a bit of work and sometimes you might wonder if the effort is worth it.

However, reading the Bible is always worth it. One of the reasons why reading the Bible is so powerful is that it gives you wisdom. The Bible is full of truth. Reading the Bible will often give you insight on how to deal with a person or situation.

Reading the Bible also helps build you up spiritually. As you read the Bible, you become stronger and more able to deal with the situations that you’re facing. Reading the Bible is worth it. So today, decide to spend some time reading the Bible. Start where you can, it might be something small like reading a verse for two minutes, and then work on building up your time in the Bible from there.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Galatians 1:15

The world right now seems a little wild. That can cause you to fear and make you wish that you didn’t have to live during this time.

Here’s the good news, however. If you’re here, you’re called.

But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased – Galatians 1:15 (NIV)

When you were in your mother’s womb, God called you. He gifted you and graced you with what you need to live out your calling.

That means that even if things seem difficult at times, God has given you what you need to be a success at this time in history. You’re called. You are equipped. God has good plans and a purpose for your life that only you can fulfill.

Your destiny might not look the same as someone else’s, but that’s ok. If you’ll listen to the leading of the Holy Spirit and be willing to adjust course if needed, you’ll find yourself on a path that will fulfill you like nothing else. So today, determine to listen to the Holy Spirit’s leading. Be encouraged that if you’re here, you’re called. You’re necessary to the plan of God on the earth today.

Success from God

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 139:16

It’s easy to question your worth. Especially when it seems like there’s always someone who is better than you, and has more than you.

Today’s Bible verse helps us see how God sees us. God doesn’t look at you and thinks that you’re just not quite as amazing as another one of His kids. Instead, He saw you before you were born. He saw your potential and knew the plan for your life even before it came to pass.

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. – Psalm 139:16 (NLT)

God loves you and planned for you to be here at this time in history. He has a plan and purpose for your life that only you can fulfill. So today, don’t be discouraged. Don’t give up or give in. Instead, realize that you’re loved, called, and seen by God and He’s got a great plan for your life that started even before you were born.

God's Plan

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 2 Corinthians 10:12

We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise. – 2 Cor 10:12

How many times have you logged into your social media account and felt like a total failure after seeing everyone else’s lives? If you’re like me, it’s quite often. You see your friends who always look amazing in every picture they take. Perhaps you see friends that go on awesome vacations or get to do cool things like zip lining in the rainforest when you’re stuck at home all summer. It’s really easy to start comparing your life to the lives of others and start to feel like a total loser.

That’s a little like what today’s Bible verse is talking about. It tells us that when we begin to classify or compare ourselves we are not wise. It isn’t wise to begin comparing yourself, your gifts, talents, and your life with others. The main reason this is true is that you don’t see yourself fully. Often, we miss our own gifts because we’re so used to them.

We often miss our own gifts because we’re used to them.

Instead of comparing ourselves with others and feeling like we fall short, we would do better to stop comparing completely. We should be looking at our strengths and be grateful for the gifts that God has placed in our lives. Being thankful and having a good attitude is a lot harder than comparing yourself to others, but it’s worth it in the long run. You’ll find that you’re much happier when you stop comparing yourself and start appreciating your gifts!

So this Easter season, remember that you’ve been gifted and called by God to be here in the world today. Don’t let yourself ever believe the lie that you’re not worth it, because to God, you’re worth everything!

Teen devotion - Gifts

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – John 3:16

God loves you. You’ve probably heard that said a lot of times. But have you ever stopped to think about it?

Rather than just let this truth get ignored, take some time today to think about it. God loves you. You. He sees all your imperfections. He sees all your failures. God sees all the times you don’t deserve His love, and He chooses to love you anyway.

That truth is amazing. God loves you. No matter what you’ve done, no matter how you’ve messed up, no matter what’s happened to you, God loved you enough to send His son Jesus.

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16 (NLT)

He did this so that you could have eternal life. That’s good news. Eternal life isn’t just living forever, it’s knowing God. It’s being able to spend time with Him in His presence.

So as you approach the Easter season, don’t let the words, “God loves you” be something that you ignore. Realize that the love He had for you reached throughout time and was the driving force to send His Son to make us right with Him. Spend some time today thanking God for His great love for you!

The Holy Spirit’s Leading – From IT to Fashion for God (the story of G.L.O.W.)

I always wanted to be a fashion designer. Ever since I was young I would always draw people with unique looks. I would have stacks of drawings of different looks. It ranged from dresses to tops and even denim jeans. I drew all throughout my years in elementary school to the end of middle school. When I got to high school, I took Fashion Marketing courses. The reason I took it was to help me expand my knowledge and to have a better understanding of what the fashion world was all about. To assess if this was something I truly wanted to pursue. As I was taking the classes, I noticed the class focused on one type of theme look as seen in “Devil Wears Prada” and the “America’s Next Top Model”. Don’t get me wrong, they were very interesting to learn about and were sort of similar to what I was drawing originally when I was younger. But as I learned more, I realized that those types of looks weren’t for me. At the time I felt that in order to be in the fashion world one had to really get into “High Fashion” and also dress the part daily. I was the complete opposite! Growing up I was somewhat a tomboy.  I loved to wear comfortable, and sporty clothes. I would occasionally switch up my looks when I got dolled up for my away games when I was on the basketball team. I would then wear my Sunday best. My thought process at the time was that if I did not wear those looks on an everyday basis, then a career in fashion was not for me. After HS I then buried my dream of being a fashion designer and focused on an IT career.

Fast forward to after college, in 2018, I finally got my “big girl” job as a Junior Cloud Engineer. Even though I was blessed to have this position, I still felt like IT was not my passion. I felt as if it wasn’t my heart’s desire to be in IT for the rest of my life. I had been seeking God on what my purpose was. I then began to feel the Holy Spirit giving me guidance. He directed me back into fashion. He began to reveal ideas through a different lens. I saw that I didn’t have to be a part of the high fashion look, as I always thought fashion had to be back in high school. The Holy Spirit dropped in my spirit to create something that I would normally wear. I love to wear joggers, hoodies, and pretty much anything that is comfortable. Even though I love to wear comfortable clothes, I made it to be fashionable to my liking. So I had the idea to create a brand that represents me on the daily, inside and out.  I wanted others to know what I represented when they saw me on the outside. Showing others the God that is on the inside of me as a believer.

As a Christian, I wanted to create a brand that would attract believers. Providing them with unique pieces, where they know they can rock something all believers would be proud to wear. Christians don’t have to be labeled as the “boring or basic”. Instead, they can be labeled as a “fashionable and dope” Christian. Not only did I want to attract Christians but also appeal to unbelievers. One of our mission as Christians is to win souls to Christ and one way to lead them is by being a light. To show the love of Christ. With this said, this is what led me to name my brand, G.L.O.W. – [God’s Love Over the World].
The Mission behind G.L.O.W. is to uplift confidence and self-love through positive sayings and to show love as Christ loves us. God made us to stand out and GLOW! Currently designing fashion is my side hustle. But my goal is, within 5-10 years, to go full-time. For “GLOW” to be known worldwide. With God, all things are possible for HIS GLORY!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Deuteronomy 7:9

Remember that the LORD your God is the only God and that he is faithful. He will keep his covenant and show his constant love to a thousand generations of those who love him and obey his commands – Deuteronomy 7:9 (GNT)

God had a plan since the beginning of time. He knew that Jesus needed to come, take the penalty for sin and restore us back to righteousness with God. The thing about God’s plan is that it took time. It took generation after generation for God’s plan to unfold.

In our lives, it’s often easy to want to give up on God. Maybe you’ve prayed and asked God for something and it hasn’t come to pass yet in your life. In those times, it’s easy to want to give up on God.  While it’s true that it might take some time to see the things of God come to pass in your life, that doesn’t mean that God isn’t working.

God is always working. He often goes behind the scenes and is working when you can’t always see it. God is working to bring things to pass. He’s working in your situation and He knows the troubles and the fears you face. God is a faithful God. He has been constantly loving people since the beginning of time and isn’t going to stop now.

God is faithful. He’s working to bring good things to pass in your life.

You might not see the results that you want yet, but know that God is faithfully working. It takes faith and holding on to hope on our part to keep going when we don’t see results yet. We’ve got to have faith in the faithfulness of God. We’ve got to have faith and trust that the God who planned for years and years to send Jesus is working on our behalf. He’s bringing good things to pass in your life. Don’t give up and don’t get tired. Keep your faith in the faithfulness of God.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Proverbs 16:3

Entrust your efforts to the LORD, and your plans will succeed. – Proverbs 16:3 (GW)

Lots of times, we lean on ourselves for things. We might not have had the best parents or upbringing and it can cause us to doubt God’s love and ability to help in our lives. When people have let us down, it can be easy to not want to trust God for things.

Today’s Bible verse really comes down to trust. It’s a challenge to put your trust in God. Rather than relying solely on yourself for everything, it asks you to trust God. Trust doesn’t always come easily, however. It can be really hard to trust something as big as your future and plans to God.

That’s what this verse is telling us to do. It’s saying to trust God with your plans, trust Him with your efforts. You can trust God with these things because He’s good. He isn’t going to let you down as people may have in your life. He’s going to always be there to walk you through the challenges that life brings. So decide today to trust in God for your future. Trust in Him and watch your plans succeed!

Trust in God and let Him help you succeed

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 1 Peter 5:6

I can remember so many times that I gave into peer pressure. My identity was tied to what other people thought about me. I recall many times making decisions, and not standing up for what was right simply because I didn’t want someone to not like me.

Now I realize that making decisions that way isn’t God’s best for my life. God’s best is that I live only for Him. That I live to know Him and for a relationship with Him.

When we live to please others and give in to peer pressure, we’re not allowing God to be first in our lives. That is really pride. God wants us to humble ourselves before Him and live fully for Him. Living for anything or any person other than God isn’t God’s best.

So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. – 1 Peter 5:6 (NLT)

God wants your heart. He wants to guide you, walk with you, and help you in each and every decision and endeavor you take on. So I encourage you to look to Him.

Don’t get caught up with friends and what others think of you. Friendships are fleeting, but a relationship with God is eternal. God loves you and wants to pursue and relationship with you.
