Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 1 John 4:8

As believers in Jesus, we should be loving other people. Yes, even those that are unlovely. Why? Because God loves us and forgives us even when we don’t deserve it. And out of that love that we have been given, we should be loving others and leading them closer to Jesus.

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. – 1 John 4:8 (NIV)

Part of knowing God, and being His follower is developing love in your life. And it might take a little effort on your part. You might be used to gossiping, maybe even spreading rumors about others. But as a follower of God, you should be loving others.

That means you’re looking for ways to bless the people around you. That might mean stopping to help your neighbor bring a bag of groceries into their house. Or perhaps it’s asking the kid that sits by himself at lunch to sit at your table. Whatever it is, listen to the leading of love on the inside of you. God wants to lead you into situations where you can be showing His love to the world around you.

1 John 4:8

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 1 John 4:7

It’s easy to love the people who are nice to us. I bet you have no problem loving your best friends. They get you, you get them, and even when you don’t see eye to eye on something, deep down its ok, because you are friends and love each other.

But how about those people who aren’t lovely? What about the bully on the bus who makes everyone feel bad? How do you love them?

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. – 1 John 4:7 (NIV)

Today’s Bible verse gives us some help. It tells us that love comes from God. When we look to God as the source of our love, loving other people becomes easier. We begin to realize that we don’t have to love them in our own ability, but we can look to God for His help and His love to love those mean people.

Knowing that God gives us the love to love difficult people is helpful. Then you’re not trying to love them by yourself, but relying on God’s help.

So if there’s a person that is really unloveable in your life, ask God for help. Ask for wisdom in how to deal with that person. Ask Him to help you love them with God’s love.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 1 Corinthians 3:9

When it comes to God’s plans for your life, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. Where do you start following them? How do you know what they are?

When it comes to following God, it’s good to remind yourself that God is good. His plans for your life are good, and when you work together with Him, good things come to pass.

For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building. – 1 Cor 3:9 (NIV)

You’re not working alone to accomplish the things God has for your life. You’re working with him and other Christians to bring them to pass. Most importantly, He’s working in you. The two of you are a team. So don’t feel overwhelmed with the idea of following God’s plan. God is working together with you to bring it to pass. You don’t have to do it all on your own.

If you’ll do your part and obey what God is calling you to do, then step by step His plan will become more obvious to you. Stay connected with God. Keep reaching out to Him and getting His thoughts on the next steps to take. As you get close to God, He will help you walk out the plan He has for your life.

God's Plans

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Ephesians 4:24

and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. – Ephesians 4:24 (NIV)

Most of us start our day each day by getting ready. We might chow down a bowl of cereal, or eat a nice hot breakfast. Then, more than likely, we’ll get ready for the day. A big part of getting ready is putting on your clothes.

We do this so that when we go outside, people see us clothed. We wouldn’t want others to see our pink fuzzy bunny slippers, or that bathrobe that’s two sizes too small. When we go out for the day, people see our clothes.

That’s a lot like what today’s Bible verse is talking about. It’s saying that as you’re living your life each day, put on your new self. The self that was created to be like God. This means that our new self should be visible to others. Other people should be able to see a difference in our attitudes and actions.

We should be letting that new self dominate what we do and it should be visible to others. That new man was created righteous and holy. So let that new man dominate your actions and attitudes today.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – James 1:2

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. – James 1:2 (NLT)

In the middle of trouble, the last thing on most people’s minds is being joyful. When you’re going through trouble, you’re not usually excited about it and most definitely not happy about it. So why does he says consider trouble a good opportunity for joy?

I believe it’s because even in the middle of chaos, you can find joy. Not that you’re excited that you’re going through the difficulty, but rather you can be at peace knowing that God will see you through.

Even if things are crazy around you, you can choose to have an attitude of joy. You can choose to have a positive outlook and look to God as your source of peace.

So today, evaluate yourself. When trouble comes, how do you respond? Are you able to have joy? Or does the trouble derail you? Remind yourself that God will never leave you alone and that He will see you through this difficult time.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 56:4

Fear is real. A lot of the time, it has a loud voice in our lives. It influences the decisions we make, the amount of sleep we get at night, and many other things.

Today’s Bible verse gives us some insight into fear.

I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? – Psalm 56:4 (NLT)

In today’s verse, we see that the Psalmist writes that he trusts in God, so why should he be afraid. That level of trust in God is amazing. The fact that he placed greater trust in God than on what he might have been facing really challenges me.

See it doesn’t matter what you’re facing. What matters is that you have trust in your God. Regardless of how bad it might look, regardless of how things might seem, when you place your trust fully in God, you have nothing to fear.

That’s good news. If you struggle with trusting God, a good way to build that trust is to read about the things He’s done for others in the Bible. Reading the stories of how God helped Abraham and the children of Israel through some really difficult seasons can help you build your faith in a God who is always working on the behalf of His children.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 56:3

What are you afraid of? Is there something that keeps you up at night worrying or upset?

Fear is a real thing. It can keep us from sleep, it can keep us from making certain decisions and it can often stop us from doing what God is calling us to do.

In today’s Bible verse, we see a simple truth. When we’re afraid, we can put our trust in God.

But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. – Psalm 56:3 (NLT)

And while that truth is very simple, it can be really hard to put into practice. It’s easier to want to rely on help from others, or to try to do it all ourselves instead of fully putting our trust in God.

God has the ability to be our solution to every problem that we face, but it takes us believing that He can do it, and then we have to put our trust in Him. Putting your trust in God isn’t an easy thing most of the time. So if you struggle with that, it’s ok. One of the best things you can do is spend some time reading Genesis and Exodus. As you read the accounts of how God supernaturally helped His people, it helps you realize that He will do the same for you when you need it.

Today, don’t give into fear. God loves you and wants to help you if you’ll simply put your trust in Him!

Psalm 56:3

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 139:17

How precious to me are your thoughts, a God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you. – Psalm 139:17-18 (NIV)

It’s one thing to know there is a God out there. However, it really is amazing to think that God is thinking about you! In fact, David writes that God thinks about us so much that it’s more than the grains of sand in the world. That’s a ton of thoughts!

God thinks about you. He’s interested in you and your life. He wants you to reach out to Him and to get to know Him as He knows you.

Begin a journey of knowing God. You can start by simply asking Him to show Himself to you. You can learn a lot about God simply by reading your Bible and connecting with other mature believers at your church. Be encouraged today, God is thinking about you!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – John 10:10

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
 – John 10:10 (NLT)

Today’s Bible verse is really encouraging. It shows us that God wants you to have a rich and satisfying life. That type of life only happens when we fully engage with God.

God doesn’t want us living sad and depressed, just barely getting by. No, God has a quality of life for you to experience. He has a rich satisfying life for you to enjoy. This life is a life that is full of purpose and meaning. That life happens when you engage with God.

So make the decision today to engage with God. Choose to really get to know Him and find out all the things that He’s promised to you. Choose to walk though life hand in hand with Jesus. Let Him into your life and find out how awesome life with God can really be!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Proverbs 16:32

Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self-control than to conquer a city. – Proverbs 16:32 (NLT)

We often put a lot of emphasis on what we do. If we get good grades or make the winning shot at basketball then we’re a success. And while getting good grades and doing well at sports is really great, they are not all there is to life. Success in life is more than just what you do. It’s also things like having self-control and being patient. Do you have the self-control to say no to peer pressure? Are you patient when things get tough in your life?

Often, the difficult times in our lives help us develop character. When things are going good, it’s easy to thank God and be happy. When things are hard and you don’t know if you can go on, that’s when your character is shown. What do you do when you’ve got more homework than time to complete it? What do you do when you’re pressured by your friends to do ungodly things? Who you are and what you do in those situations show off the habits you’ve developed in your life up to this point.

So instead of getting upset by difficulty, try to look at it in a positive light. Difficult situations can be a time for you to grow and practice patience and self-control. Decide to let difficulty make you better. Choose to work on the habits and attitudes of your heart and grow closer to God during these times.
