Let us be bold, then, and say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?”  – Hebrews 13:6 (GNT)

It really hurts when someone betrays you. Maybe you had a friend that you thought was there for you. Then all of a sudden you found out that they had been talking about you behind your back. When things like that happen, it can really be difficult to know what to do. Your natural response might be to get back at them. Perhaps you want to do something to them to hurt them as bad as they hurt you.

The truth is, regardless of what others do to you. You choose your response. You are the one in charge of your emotions. You can choose to let difficult people and situations destroy you or make you better.  So if you’re in the middle of a tough time in your life, today determine to choose a positive response.

That isn’t to say that what has been done to you is ok, but rather that you’re not going to let it define you. Instead, choose to think thoughts about the goodness of God. Choose to believe your value to God. Let God be your helper when things are tough and you’ll see that He will take you through.

Teen Devotion on Following After God

His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
 – John 2:5 (NASB)

In today’s Bible verse, Mary, Jesus’ mother told the servants at the wedding to do whatever Jesus said to do. This is great advice for any of us who are following God’s plan for our lives. Often, we make following after Jesus hard. We might stress over what career path to choose or who to date. And while those are important decisions to get His input on, following Jesus isn’t always about the big things. Often, following Jesus is about smaller things.

What is that one thing that you feel like Jesus has told you to do? Maybe you feel Him leading you to call a friend you haven’t spoken to in awhile. Perhaps you had an idea to bake cookies for a sick neighbor. Today, don’t over-complicate what you feel Jesus is leading you to do with doubt and fear. Instead, simply do what He told you to do.

Whatever it is that Jesus has spoken to you to do, do it. As you do, He will lead you and guide you into more things. Today, don’t be afraid to step out and do the things He has put on your heart to do.

Trust. That can be a really hard thing to do. You might trust your parents. Perhaps you know that they’ll always get you a present for Christmas, so you trust that each Christmas morning you’ll wake up, and have a gift from them. Trusting someone you can see can be easy if they’ve proven themselves.

Trusting God though, can be a lot harder. How do you trust someone you can’t see?

One of the best ways to get started trusting God, is to read the Bible. The more you read the word, the more you’ll realize how trustworthy God really is. You begin to see accounts of people who trusted in God and how God saw them through. You can also read books about people of faith in History. Reading their accounts can help you begin to trust God. A third way could be simply by beginning to step out and trust Him in daily ways. Maybe you can trust Him to show you what classes to pick in the fall. Perhaps you can trust Him to speak to your heart as to where you should go to college. Begin trusting Him in small ways and the more you say yes to God, the more you will trust Him.

Commit everything you do to the LORD . Trust him, and he will help you. – Psalm 37:5 (NLT)

Each day, try to trust Him more. As you read your Bible, ask God to show you ways that you can depend on Him and trust Him. As you do that, you’ll see Him continually come through for you.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 91:5

Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. – Psalm 91:5

Every day we run into lots of opportunities to be afraid. We see some of the things going on in the world and it can cause us to fear. This Bible verse offers us good news, however, when it comes to fear. In this verse, God tells us to not be afraid of things that might happen in the day and at night.

If we don’t need to fear in the day or in the night, then we don’t need to fear at all. There’s no time in the day that is left out of this verse. See God tells us to not fear in this Bible verse for a reason. We don’t need to fear because God is there to protect us. We can trust God for His protection day and night.

That’s not always easy to do, but we can do it if we really focus on God. If you struggle, build yourself up by reading accounts in the Bible where God supernaturally helped and protected His people. Then know that He will do the same for you, if you’ll believe Him and ask Him to help you too!

So challenge yourself like this daily Bible verse says to not fear all day long. Instead, put your trust in God that He will protect you and keep you safe!

Today’s Truth: We don’t have to fear all day long because God will protect us!

Daily Devotion and Bible Verse – Zechariah 4:6

So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty. – Zechariah 4:6

God never designed us to do things independently of Him. He designed us to know Him and out of that relationship, accomplish great things with His strength working in and through us.

That’s what today’s Bible verse is saying. Zerubbabel was challenged not to fight a normal battle but to fight trusting God. He believed God that He would work on their behalf in a powerful, supernatural way.

God wants the same for us. Instead of us just jumping out and accomplishing things in our own strength, God wants us to get Him involved in your situation. He has a better way to accomplish what you need. And when God is on your side, it’s better than what you could accomplish alone.

Today’s Truth: With God on your side, you can accomplish more than you could on your own.

This doesn’t mean that we sit and do nothing, simply waiting on God to move us to try something. Rather, what it means is that when we do step out, we are listening to Him and His direction. That means that when He speaks to us or gives us an idea, we follow it no matter how weird it might seem in the natural.

It’s when we do this that we see God move mightily on our behalf. So regardless of the battle, you face today, be encouraged, you’re not fighting it alone. If you’re willing God will fight for you!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Genesis 6:9

I can’t even begin to tell you all the times I’ve felt alone in my faith. How many times I’ve said no to peer pressure because what my friends were doing wasn’t right. Time after time, it’s felt like I’ve been alone in my stand for my faith.

Now, me saying that isn’t to say, look at me, look how good I am. Not at all. I still deal with sin. I still lie, mess up, don’t honor my parents and do all kinds of bad things. But what I’m saying is, I can understand a little bit where Noah was coming from in Genesis 6:9.

This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God. – Genesis 6:9 (NLT)

Noah was a righteous man. He was saying no to the bad things going on in the world at the time. Was he perfect? No. But his heart was faithful after God and God counted Noah righteous.

So what about you? Do you follow after God? Even when it might mean that you’re standing all alone? Or do you cave to the pressures of the world?

As a child of God, you should be living your life to please Him. You should be striving after Him in all you do. So challenge yourself today, to make any changes you need to make to live for Him. Yes, there will be times when you’ll feel that you’re all alone. But stand strong. Let God fill you and stand up for Him in the world.

Today’s Truth: Stand for God, even if it means standing alone.

The wicked man borrows and does not repay, but the righteous one is gracious and giving. – Psalm 37:21 (HCSB)

How do you handle your money? Are you always asking others for money to go to the movies? Or are you someone who is looking for opportunities to give?

This Bible verse really shows us how much better it is to be a person who gives. Giving to your church and to others is a great habit to get into while you’re young. Many people put off giving thinking that they will give when they’re making more money. The problem with that thinking is that it doesn’t matter how much money you make. You’re always going to find something else to do with it. If you can’t find a way to give when you have a little, you’ll never give when you have a lot.

Today’s Truth: When you make giving a habit, you’ll always find you have enough to do the things you want to do

Giving is always worth it in the long run. You’ll find that God will really bless you as you give into your church and the lives of others. So don’t give into the lie that tells you if you give you won’t have enough. That is not the case. When you make giving a habit, you’ll find you’ll always have enough to do the things you want to do.

We must continue to hold firmly to our declaration of faith. The one who made the promise is faithful. – Hebrews 10:23 (GW)

I remember one time I was completing a ropes course to train for a missions trip. The final obstacles was to climb up a huge climbing wall. About halfway up the wall and I began thinking to myself this was a lot harder than I had imagined.  Honestly, I wanted to give up. My body was so tired, and it was so hot. However, in that moment, I hung on to the side of that wall with all my might. I wasn’t going to let go or give up.

That’s a lot like what we are told to do in this verse. We’re told to hang on to our faith. Whether its faith in Jesus, or believing for a promise that’s found in God’s word. We are encouraged to hold on to those things, and not let go even when things get tough.

The reason we can hold on so tightly is that we know that God is faithful.  The dictionary online defined faithful like this: deserving trust : keeping your promises or doing what you are supposed to do. That’s why we can hold on to our faith in God. He is a good God who deserves our trust and who keeps His promises.

Today’s Truth: We can trust in God because He keeps His promises to us.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – James 4:5

Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him. – James 4:5 (NLT)

Wow, today’s verse is really powerful. First of all, it challenges our love for scripture. Do we place value on scripture? Is the Bible your main guide in life? Or do you seek approval of others, or what the world says for how you live your life?

That’s a powerful thing to consider. Who do I love most? Do I love the world, it’s flashy fun, it’s draw? Or do I love the Bible? Is the Bible where I spend my time and attention?

Here’s the second thing about this verse. The Spirit is jealous of us.

That’s so exciting to me. I feel like we all want to be wanted. We want our crush to notice us, and like us. We want them to chase after us, spoil us, and show us how special we are to them. And yet, that’s exactly what the Holy Spirit will do for us.

The Holy Spirit is jealous for us. He wants our hearts, He wants our attention, He wants all of us. He wants us to be faithful to Him. Just like we want our crush to be jealous of us, the Holy Spirit already is. He wants your whole heart.

So today, ask yourself, am I faithful to the things of God? Do I love spending time with God in prayer, worship, and the Bible? Or do I seek the approval of others and the world? It’s important to decide for whom you’re living. Though it’s not always the easiest way, living for God will always pay rewards in the end!

Today’s Truth: Don’t love the world

But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased – Galatians 1:15

Have you ever thought about the fact that God has a call on your life? That’s what Paul was talking about in this verse, how God knew you in your mother’s womb. He created you and called you for a purpose. You are not an accident, and you have a unique purpose to fulfill.

The good news is that God loves you and is pleased with you. He wants to develop a closer relationship with you and show you the awesome plan and call for your life. You’ve just got to put in the time to get to know Him so He can reveal it to you.

So be encouraged by today’s Bible verse. God has created you to do good things. Don’t let yourself be discouraged or feel like you’re not important. You’ve been created by God for greatness! So go out and make a difference in your world.
