Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 112:1

I remember a time when I rode a rollercoaster. It was a really rickety old coaster. Each bump and turn in the ride shook my whole body. About halfway through the ride, I realized that I was developing a bad headache. By the time the ride was done, the creaking, shaking, rumbling ride made me so thankful for the other rollercoasters in the park that were nice and new. They provided a great and smooth ride. Both rides were roller coasters, but the smooth one was the one that I enjoyed.

That reminds me of how much smoother life can be when we fear God and delight in His commands. Today’s Bible verse talks about that.

Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands. – Psalm 112:1 (NIV)

When we fear God and delight in his commands, it’s like riding the smooth roller coaster. It just goes better for us and is much more enjoyable. Life with God, loving Him, following what His word and commands say is better. It bring us blessing. It makes us have less headaches and sorrow.

So today, determine in your heart that you will fear God. Not that you’re scared of God, but that you respect Him. You love Him and honor Him as the one who created the world and everything in it. Then determine to also fall in love with His word. In the Bible is where you’ll really grow and get to know God more. Develop good habits of reading the word and see how much smoother life gets.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 111:10

What do you want most out of life? Do you wish to belong? Do you want to be successful in business, make money, or some other pursuit? I know for years, I wanted nothing more than to be a successful business person and to have lots of money to give into the gospel. Let’s look a bit at today’s verse and see what it can teach us about what we should be wanting out of life.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. – Psalm 111:10 (NIV)

Today’s verse talks about how the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Is wisdom something that we want in life? How far could we go if we would just reverence or fear God? If we sought His plan for our lives. What would things look like?

It’s amazing how easily we can become like the world. We can forget that seeking God and His wisdom is to be the thing that we want most of all. It’s in Him and knowing Him that we get the wisdom that we need. Out of that wisdom can come success.

We will find the most success in life if we will simply seek after God’s wisdom. When we do that, the other things in our life will line up. So today, challenge yourself to seek God’s wisdom. Follow after Him and see what a difference His wisdom can make in the situations that you’re facing.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Esther 4:14

Esther was an amazing woman in the Bible. She was bold and daring. When it really mattered, she stood up for those around her who needed it.

Esther could have remained silent and not said anything. Honestly, that probably would have been a lot easier for her. She would have been more comfortable and wouldn’t have faced the threat of death. Instead, Esther chose to stand up for her people and her faith.

For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” – Esther 4:14

In life, we have moments where we can choose to participate with God. We can choose His plan and His purpose, or we can choose to be silent and do what seems easier.

If you want to do big things for God, however, you’ve got to choose to participate with God.

Today’s Truth: To do big things for God, you’ve got to choose to participate with Him.

So today, if you’ve been silent for your faith or been afraid to take the next step in your relationship with God, don’t be. Determine to not let fear rule your life. Step out in faith and see what God can do in you.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Luke 12:25

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? – Luke 12:25 (NIV)

I used to let worry run my life. I’d worry about what one friend thought of me. I’d worry that I said the wrong thing to someone. I would worry that I forgot my assignments for school.

Worry drove my life and I was so unhappy as a result. I could hardly function and lived in indecision not wanting to make a mistake.

I realized one day that worry was not helping me. Instead, it made me upset and not enjoy life.

Today’s Challenge: Give Up Worry

If you’ve been guilty of worry determine today to live differently. Choose to not let worry run your life. Instead, look to God. Ask Him for His help and wisdom to defeat the areas of worry in your life.

With a little perspective and help from God, you’ll find that you can give up worry and start to enjoy life more. And that’s what God wants for you. He wants you to have a good life.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Luke 12:24

Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! – Luke 12:24 (NIV)

You are important to God. He cares about you. God wants to provide you with everything you need.

Many times, it’s easy to forget this. Instead, we focus on all the things we don’t have. The friends we don’t have or the phone we don’t have. And we let these things cause us to be unhappy.

Happiness is never found in things or people. It’s only found in Jesus. When we focus all our attention on things, we forget that it’s all about Jesus.

Jesus wants to provide for you because He loves you. He cares about every aspect of your life. He cares about the things that upset and worry you. So today challenge yourself to let Jesus have a place in your life.

Today’s Challenge: Remember You’re Important to God.

Let Jesus be your source of happiness. Choose to let Him fill you.

Know that you’re important to God.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Luke 12:23

For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. – Luke 12:23 (NIV)

Do you love clothes? Maybe you like having the best shoes or having everyone compliment your new outfit.

There’s nothing wrong with having great clothes, or eating tasty food. In fact, God likes that we enjoy life.

But when we let our focus be only on wearing the right thing and eating great stuff, we’ve missed the point.

Today’s Challenge: Get to Know Jesus

God wants our life to be spent knowing Him. Trusting Him. When we make Him our pursuit we find the happiness and meaning that we want.

It can be easy to think that having the right clothes, friends or food will make us happy. And while it may for a time, in the end, true happiness is found only in knowing Jesus.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Matthew 11:28

Life can be tough but know you’re not alone. You’ve got heavenly wisdom and help to face any and every situation. You will make it through!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – John 5:39

We’ve been looking this week at the evidence that Jesus presented the Jewish leaders with that spoke to Him being God. One of these pieces of evidence would be difficult to come up with. When we have five of them, it’s very tough to imagine that Jesus is lying. Let’s take a look at today’s evidence.

You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, – John 5:39 (NIV)

In today’s verse we see that Jesus points to scripture testifying of Him. Now this is one of the hardest pieces of evidence to forge. Why? Because Jesus would have had to be able to fake where He was born. He would have had to fake things that would have been almost impossible to fake. Things that He had no control over, like His lineage or birthplace.

The scriptures speak to Jesus being the son of God. This is the final piece of evidence that Jesus presents to the Jewish leaders.

We like those Jewish leaders have a choice. We can hear all the evidence for Jesus and still choose to not believe. Or we can choose to accept the evidence, believe that it’s true and put our faith in Him. The choice, just like the one for those leaders is ours. However, if we examine the evidence, it leads us to the conclusion that Jesus was indeed God. It is the easiest explanation for the evidence we have regarding His life.

So what about you? Have you put your faith in Jesus? Have you decided to trust His saving work? If so, then you get to walk in the awesome limitless relationship He offers you. It knows no end to its goodness, and it will indeed bring you the peace your heart craves. Don’t delay making the decision for Jesus. Put your faith in Him today.

Today’s Truth: The scriptures testify that Jesus is God.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – John 5:37

Over the last few days, we’ve been looking at evidence that Jesus presented as proof for being the son of God. Jesus knew that saying these things would have gotten Him eventually killed by the leaders of His time. So Him presenting this evidence would be very strange if it were not indeed the truth.

Also, it would be very difficult to get all this evidence to agree, if Jesus were not sent by God. So the most likely explanation for all the evidence that Jesus presents in this passage is that Jesus is indeed the son of God.

And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form – John 5:37 (NIV)

Here we see Jesus presenting the next evidence for who He is. He says that the Father testifies concerning Jesus. Now Jesus might be able to say He’s the son of God, He might be able to convince His cousin that He was the son of God, maybe He could fake some miracles, but as He presents more and more proof, it continually becomes harder to doubt Jesus’ divinity.

When Jesus was baptized, God himself spoke and said that He was God’s son. So God Himself spoke to the fact that Jesus was the son of God. God said that Jesus was His son. So we have to believe this testimony as well.

Today’s Truth: God Himself testified that Jesus was God.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – John 5:36

In yesterday’s devotion, we talked about how Jesus was addressing the Jewish leaders and showing them the evidences that He is indeed God. We saw how John testified to who He was. It would be difficult to get someone to say you were God if you weren’t. And John said He was. Let’s look at what Jesus presented to them next.

“I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish—the very works that I am doing—testify that the Father has sent me. – John 5:36 (NIV)

Next Jesus talked about the works He did. Of course Jesus could have gotten John to lie somehow and say that He was God. But the works and the miracles that Jesus did would be hard to forge. How could He heal the sick, raise the dead, forgive sins, and do all the works that He did without being God?

The most likely explanation for both the miracles Jesus did and the testimony of John, would be that He was indeed the Christ.

But the good thing is, Jesus didn’t just give us two pieces of evidence for who He is, He gave us even more. Let’s look tomorrow at the next piece of evidence He brings us in John 5.

Today’s Truth: The miracles of Jesus testify that He is God.
