Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – December 10

Daily BIble Verse and Devotion for Teens on Christmas

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21

We’ve all sinned. It doesn’t matter how good we are, even the smallest mistake is considered a sin. So regardless of how good we are, we still need a savior. We need someone who could save us from our sins and make us right with God again.

That’s what Jesus did. He made us right with God. He paid the penalty for sin.

So this Christmas season, we can celebrate the fact that we’ve been made free from sin. So in the busyness of the holidays take some time to really remind yourself of what Jesus did. Take a few minutes and think about how great it is to be made free from sin.

3 Reasons to Practice Giving This Christmas

It’s the Christmas season. And if you’re like me, Christmas gets you excited. I love the decorations, delicious food, and all the great gifts. Getting new things can be so much fun! One of the great things about Christmas is that not only is it a time for getting new stuff, it’s also a time for giving. Many times, in the Christmas season we can get wrapped up in making our Christmas list that we forget to experience the joy found in giving.

Let’s take a look at a few reasons why we should practice giving this holiday.

Reason #1 – Bigger is Better

The world of the generous gets larger and larger; – Proverbs 11:24 a (MSG)

In life, usually bigger is better. If you got a 74 inch TV for Christmas, you’d be way more excited than getting a 24 inch one. Generally, we tend to like things that are bigger and better. We are wired to like bigger and better things. This is how God made us. God is a God of abundance and He wants you to experience bigger and better things with Him. He desires to see you blessed and having abundance. That abundance, however, isn’t just for you. God wants you to use it to help others.

God wants to bless you so that you can use those blessings to help others. He wants you to expand your vision and look for ways you can help others around you. God might ask you to do something very simple to help those around you. As you obey, you’ll find that a lifestyle of generosity brings you lasting happiness.

As you make giving a part of your lifestyle, you’ll be surprised to see how much your vision expands. You will want to give to others. You start by looking for needs and asking God to show you how you could meet them. Your world gets bigger the more you give.

Reason #2 – A Small Worldview is Selfish

Teen Devotion and Bible Verse

The world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller – Proverbs 11:24 b (MSG)

Have you noticed how easy it is to begin focusing on only yourself? Maybe you have two or three close friends and you guys hang out all the time and do everything together.  There’s nothing wrong with having a group of friends, however, when those friends are all you hang out with, you can often be excluding others that God would want you to reach with His love.

When your focus is your self, your friends, your goals and your dreams, your world will be small. And the reality is, the more you focus on yourself the unhappier you’ll be. If you want to change the world, start by focusing on those around you. The truth is, God wants to use you. He wants to do big things through you and use you to bless the people around you. If you’ll be open to his leading, you’ll see that He will put opportunities into your life to bless and help others.

Look for opportunities to help others. It might be buying a candy bar to help someone that had a bad day. It might be organizing some friends to bring flowers to the girl on your volleyball team that broke her leg. It could be baking cookies and giving the money from selling them to missions. There are endless opportunities around you to be a blessing to others. You’ve just got to begin thinking bigger and you’ll start to see lots of ways God can use you to bless others.

Reason #3 – Eternal Thinking Leads to Happiness

It seems like we are always in search of things that make us happy. For you, it might be playing Fortnite with friends. It’s easy to begin to focus all your energy on those things that bring you happiness. You think if I could just get a boyfriend, or if I could just get that one friend to like me then you’ll be happy.

And getting those things may make you happy for a time. However, that happiness often doesn’t last for a long time. You get that boyfriend only to find out he’s got some flaws that drive you crazy. Or you get the shoes you wanted only to find out that they get dirty and aren’t as comfortable as you thought.

Getting more things don’t bring you lasting happiness. If you want to be happier, you need to focus your attention on things that are eternal. You do this by focusing on others, focusing on being a light for Jesus, focusing on needs that you see around you and then asking God how you can help meet those needs. Doing those things will make you have lasting happiness. Nothing is better than leading a friend to Christ. You experience true happiness by helping a needy family in your town or giving some money to a missionary. These types of things are eternal. These types of things bring lasting happiness.

So this Christmas season, choose to focus your attention on things that are eternal. Don’t get all wrapped up in your Christmas list that you forget what Christmas is about. Ask God to show you how you can help meet the needs of those around you, and see that God will help you change your world.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 1:2

Bible Verse & Daily Devotion on Reading the Bible

Rather, he delights in the teachings of the LORD and reflects on his teachings day and night. – Psalm 1:2 (GW)

Its easy in the busyness of life to take the Bible for granted. Life happens and the next thing you know its been days, weeks or maybe even months since you had some time to spend reading the Bible.

The Bible shouldn’t just be something that we make time for when nothing else is going on, it should be something that we are excited about and reading day and night. One of the best ways to get excited about God’s word is to just start digging into it. The more you read it, the more you desire to read more.

So challenge yourself to make reading the Bible a priority in your life. Determine to not let all the stuff going on keep you from spending time with God.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Judges 6:12

When the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon, he said, “The LORD is with you, mighty warrior.” – Judges 6:12 (NIV)

In this Bible verse, Gideon was going through a season of his life when his faith was weak. He wasn’t feeling it and probably would have rather given up than continued on. At this moment when he was discouraged, an angel appears to Gideon and tells him that the Lord is with Him.

You’ve probably experienced times in your life when your faith was weak like Gideon’s. Maybe you questioned if you really heard from God about something. Perhaps you feel like so many things are against you in life that you can’t go on.

In times like these, we can take courage in the fact that God is always with us. God doesn’t leave us without help. He said that He would never leave us or forsake us. He has the answer you need for whatever it is that you’re going through.

Like Gideon, he won’t leave you. He sees you in your discouragement and tells you again and again in the Bible that you can make it. So choose to shift your thinking onto what God’s word says. You’re not alone. God is for you and He’s with you each step of the way.

Daily Devotion and Bible Verse – Psalm 138:1

pablo(12)

I will give You thanks with all my heart;
I will sing Your praise before the heavenly beings. – Psalm 138:1

We’ve got so many things to be thankful for. We’ve got a God who loves us, who sent His son to die for us so that He could know us.

That’s something to give thanks about. This Bible verse talks about giving thanks with all our heart. That’s easy to do when you spend time thinking about how good God is. When you focus on all the blessings you have in your life, it’s easy to be able to give God thanks.

Take some time today to think about all the things God has done for you. You’re probably more blessed than you realize!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Ephesians 4:22

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion - Sinful nature

throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. – Ephesians 4:22 (NLT)

Have you noticed how easy it is to fall into bad habits? I remember how often I’d go down a bad path when I was with friends. I love getting people to laugh and would do or say anything to get my friends to laugh. As you can imagine, often that would cause me to do or say something that wasn’t godly.

Once we’ve accepted Jesus into our hearts, the Bible tells us that we’ve been made new in Christ. Even though we’ve been made new, it’s up to us to act on that new nature. We have to choose to throw off our sinful nature and act out our new nature in Christ.

This isn’t always easy. It’s a choice you have to make to act out of your new nature in Christ and to put off the old habits, desires, and thoughts. So today, challenge yourself to put away those sinful desires and thoughts and live out of your new nature in Christ.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Jeremiah 30:19

Teen Devotion on ThankfulnessThere will be joy and songs of thanksgiving, and I will multiply my people, not diminish them; I will honor them, not despise them. – Jeremiah 30:19 (NLT)

Have you ever had those moments when it felt like everything was going wrong? I recall a time when I had a friend die, my grandmother had been diagnosed with cancer, and some friends were not being nice to me. At the time, it felt like everything that could go wrong was going wrong. I wasn’t sure I could handle anything else bad happening in my life.

In moments where things are going bad and thing after thing seems to be stacked up against you, how do you find the strength and courage to keep moving on? One of the best ways is by being thankful. It might seem crazy, but finding ways to be thankful really helps in tough times.

So if all your friends have abandoned you, be thankful that God said He would never leave you. Be thankful that you’ve got a God who loved you when you didn’t deserve it. Thankfulness is powerful, it changes your outlook. It takes the focus off of our problems and puts it back on God.

[Tweet “Thankfulness takes the focus off of the problem and puts it back on God – @studentdevos”]

So today, take a moment to practice thankfulness. Even if it does seem like everything around you is going wrong, realize that being thankful is the key to getting through your problems. So sing a worship song that you like, remind yourself of the times in the past God has come through for you. Choose to be thankful regardless of what you see around you.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – November 20

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion on Doing the right thing, standing up for what you believe

But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God. – Daniel 6:10

Have you ever had someone give you a hard time because you were a Christian? Perhaps a teacher at school told you to not share Jesus, or a friend called you closed minded for believing in Christ. What do you do when someone gives you a hard time and challenges your beliefs?

Today’s Bible verse shows us a lot about what to do when your beliefs are challenged. Daniel faced a tough situation. He had a job but the people he worked with wanted to get him in trouble because he was successful. They made it illegal for him to worship God. In that moment, Daniel faced a choice. Would he stand up for what he believed, or just stay quiet and give in to pressure? If he stayed quiet, and stopped worshiping God nothing would happen to him. However, Daniel made the choice to obey God.

He stood up for what he believed in. That’s what we see in today’s verse. He went home, and prayed with his windows open, for everyone to see. They could tell that he wasn’t going to stay quiet about what he believed.

Challenge yourself today to be like Daniel and not let anything come in the way of you worshiping God or standing up for what you believe. Determine to do what Daniel did in today’s Bible verse and stand up for your faith.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Phil 4:4

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion on Rejoicing in the Lord

Rejoice in the Lord always- delight, gladden yourselves in Him: again I say, rejoice! – Philippians 4:4

This Bible verse talks about rejoicing always which means all the time. And in all circumstances. That means rejoicing when you feel like it and when you don’t. Rejoicing when your brother is driving you crazy, and when you get a promotion at your job. Regardless of circumstances, we are encouraged to rejoice in the Lord.

Why are we told to rejoice? It seems really strange. When you’re feeling down, you just want to mope around, stay in bed all day or have a good cry. Yet the Bible tells us to rejoice. Why?

The key to our strength is found in rejoicing. Rejoicing can help change your feelings. When you rejoice it begins to change your sadness into joy. It changes your feelings of hopelessness into hope. There is power in rejoicing in what God has done for you. Take time today to rejoice!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Galatians 6:9

Galatians 6:9 Teen and Youth Bible Verse

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. – Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

In high school, each year I went out for tennis. I remember getting up early in the morning to lift weights. I did running drills and lots of hours of practice. It was a lot of work and a lot of free time I was giving up to play this sport. There were times when I wondered if all the early morning weight lifting was worth it.

However, once the season began, I was glad I had put in the effort. When I went to play other teams from other schools I was glad that I had practiced and was conditioned to keep up with them during the meets.

That’s a bit like what today’s Bible verse is telling us. If we keep on doing good, following after God, making the right choices, we will be glad we did. Because at the proper time, when we’re faced with a test or trial, we’ll be glad that we stuck with it and didn’t give up.

So if you’re discouraged, take comfort in the fact that if you keep with it, all the hard work and standing will be worth it in the end. Don’t give up or quit. Stay the course and finish strong!
