Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Matthew 14:30

Teen Devotion on Faith

What are you passionate about? Is it doing well in the school band? Making the basketball team? Getting your crush in math class to notice you? What is your passion?

When you answer that question, you can probably pinpoint where your focus is. When you’re passionate about something, you focus on it. If you’re passionate about making the basketball team, you spend time after school shooting baskets, lifting weights, and doing whatever it takes to get your body conditioned to make the team.

[Tweet “When you’re passionate about something, you focus on it – @studentdevos”]

The same is true in our spiritual lives. What we focus on is important.

But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. – Matthew 14:30 (NLT)

Peter began well. His focus was on Jesus and He stepped out in faith on what Jesus told him to do. However, Peter started changing his focus. He looked at the storm around him. He saw the waves. Then he did what any rational person would do, he began to fear.

In life, we often begin to look around us. We see all the reasons we can’t do what God is calling us to do. And just like Peter, our faith fails and we stop trusting God.

[Tweet “Faith fails when your focus becomes anything other than Jesus – @studentdevos”]

Teen Devotion on Faith and keeping Jesus your focusWhat we focus on, makes a big difference. If we focus on fear and all the reasons we can’t do something, we will always fail. However, Jesus encourages us to focus on Him.

When we change our focus to Jesus, we win every time. So today, choose to look at Jesus. Tune out the circumstances and the storm and keep your eyes on Jesus and you’ll see a victory in your life!

Today’s Challenge: Keep Your Focus On Jesus

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Hebrews 11:6

Teen Devotion and Bible Verse on Faith

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. – Hebrews 11:6

Have you ever felt like the thing God was telling you to do was really crazy? I remember a time when God spoke to me to give away all my birthday money. That was hard to do! I was trying to save up my money to buy a new drumset, and I was well on my way toward saving for it. And then God did something crazy! He told me to give all my money away.

Of course, I struggled with that idea. I didn’t want to be even farther away from my goal of getting my drumset. Yet, I knew that God loved me and I knew that He wouldn’t tell me to give away my money to be mean or keep me from getting the thing I wanted so badly.

So I took my birthday money to the church and put it in the offering. Man, that was hard!

And then I kind of forgot about it. I forgot all about the money and just went about doing the things I’d always done. One day, a lady at our church came up to me and gave me a check for the full amount of money I needed to buy my drums. I was so excited.

God had come through for me. I had trusted God with my money and God came through for me even when it seemed crazy.

That’s what faith is. Faith sees God as bigger than the facts. The facts might say that something isn’t possible. However, faith holds on to what God says above all else!

Today’s Challenge: Hold Onto What God says above all else

Teen devotion on faithGod cares about you. He loves you and He responds to those who seek Him. So today challenge yourself to believe God’s love. Believe He cares for you and about you. Trust Him and realize that your faith in Him will keep you going even if it seems bigger than the facts.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Hebrews 11:1

Teen Devotion on Faith

When I was 12 years old, I took my first mission trip with my church. My youth group was going overseas to do some assemblies at schools to tell children about Jesus. Honestly, I was terrified. I felt a stirring in my heart that God was calling me to go, but I was scared.

I didn’t have the money to go and I knew my parents didn’t have any extra money to help me go either. If I was going, I had to do all my fundraising myself. Raising that much money felt pretty intimidating.

Even though I was afraid, I signed up for the trip. Then, I began raising money. God helped me each step of the way and I was able to raise all the funds I needed to go on the trip.

Isn’t it interesting, how God will often call us to do things that are so much bigger than we can accomplish by ourselves?

[Tweet “God will often call us to do things that are bigger than what we can accomplish on our own – @studentdevos”]

That’s where faith comes in. When we face something that is bigger than we can handle or do on our own, it takes faith to believe that God is going to come through for us. God often will often stir us to do something much bigger than what we can do on our own.

Today’s Truth: Faith feels frightening.

But in those moments where we are not enough, faith is what will carry us on.

Now faith brings our hopes into reality and becomes the foundation needed to acquire the things we long for. It is all the evidence required to prove what is still unseen. – Hebrews 11:1 (TPT)

Teen Devotion About Faith

When God calls you to do something, it will usually be bigger than just what you can do by yourself. God wants to provide and help you do the things He has called you to do, but it takes faith to believe that. Will you have great faith and do what God is calling you to do?

Today’s Challenge: God is looking for people who will say yes in faith!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Psalm 119:105

Teen Devotion on Gods Word

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. – Psalm 119:105

Have you ever used Google Maps when you were in a new place? Perhaps you wanted to know where to get some food and you decided to let your maps app direct you to an awesome new restaurant. Once you turned on that map, it gave you turn by turn instructions that led you to your destination.

God wants the Bible to be our Google Maps in life. The Bible is what we can go to when we need to know what the next turn is in life. The Bible is our place to go when we don’t know what to do. The Bible has answers to the toughest of situations and circumstances you might face.

Treat God’s word like Google Maps. Let it guide you each step of your journey. When you don’t know what to do, it shows you what to do. When you don’t know what the future holds, it brings you hope and encouragement. God’s word is the answer to everything we face!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Proverbs 1:7

Teen Devotion and Bible Verse

To have knowledge, you must first have reverence for the LORD. Stupid people have no respect for wisdom and refuse to learn – Proverbs 1:7 (GNB)

Many students today don’t take time for God in their lives. Most of the reasons for not having time are legitimate. It may be due to being busy, the pressures of life, or some other reason. Regardless of the reason, this verse tells us that not making time for God in our lives is stupid.

Yeah, that hurts to hear, doesn’t it?

As a Christian, you should be wanting to know Jesus more. That should be one of your main desires.

There are treasures found within God’s word that can help with all the problems you face each day. God’s word is powerful and it can teach you amazing things. When you spend time in God’s word it is never wasted time. It helps you with every aspect of your life.

When you spend time in God’s word, you gain practical wisdom on how to handle many of life’s challenges. Decide today that you’re not going to fill your life so full of other things that you have no time for God. Make knowing Him an important part of your life.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Proverbs 19:20

Teen Devotion Friends

Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise. – Proverbs 19:20 (NIV)

If you want to be successful, it’s always good to find friends that are wise. Often, that might mean that you will have some friends that are a variety of ages.

For example, if you want career advice, make friends with someone who has a successful career. Then ask them questions and advice to find out what they did to become successful.

If you need help growing spiritually, ask a youth leader or friend who has a solid relationship with God for help. They have been there before and can help you get to where you want to go.

Today’s Key: Have Wise Friends

Having wise friends is important. They can help guide you when you don’t know what to do. Wise friends also can keep you on track when things are hard and help you see blind spots in your life.

Don’t discount how far wise friends will take you. If you haven’t yet, decide to look for relationships with wise people. You’ll be more successful if you do!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Proverbs 27:17

Daily Teen Devotion and Bible Verse

It takes a grinding wheel to sharpen a blade, and so one person sharpens the character of another. – Proverbs 27:17 (TPT)

We’ve probably heard someone tell us how we should be careful to not have bad friends. However, have you ever thought about the fact that you should be making good friends too?

You should be trying to find friends that motivate you to do better.

Today’s Key – Have Friends That Motivate You To Do Better

If you want to do better at band, then find friends that excel at an instrument. Spend time with them. Find out the habits they have to do so well at the band and emulate them. Learning good habits from them will help you do better at your instrument too.

Perhaps you want to do better at sports. Then the same logic follows. Find friends that do well in sports. Copy their habits. If they spend Saturday afternoons lifting weights at the weight room, then go with them.

[Tweet “To be successful, find friends who motivate you to do better – @studentdevos”]

Finding good friends with good habits can be very helpful. Friends that are successful in an area you’d like to grow in can really push you on to success in that area too.

So if you haven’t put any energy into finding good friends, determine to do that today. Don’t let all your friends be people that you simply have fun with and watch movies with. Instead, find friends that push you to do better and be better.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Luke 6:31

Teen Devotion on Friendships

Do to others as you would like them to do to you. – Luke 6:31 (NLT)

It can be easy to feel like others don’t understand you. Maybe you feel like your friends just don’t understand what you’re going through. Perhaps you feel like everyone at your school just doesn’t get you.

There are going to be times in your life where you feel like you’re misunderstood.

Read: Help No One Gets Me

The key in the middle of all of those feelings is to make sure that you’re still treating others well. It can be easy if people don’t treat you right to want to retaliate or to hurt others. However, today’s Bible verse challenges us to treat others how you’d want to be treated.

If you’d like to be treated nice, then treat others nice. If you feel left out, look for someone to include.

[Tweet “Treat others how you’d like to be treated – @studentdevos”]

Today’s Key – Be Friendly & Treat Others Well

Being nice goes a long way toward having good relationships with others. Treating others well helps others want to be around you.

If you feel like you don’t have any friends, ask yourself this: Am I doing anything to push others away?

It can be easy if you’ve been hurt to not be nice or hog all the attention. However, these things may push away other potential friends. So if you’ve noticed that people don’t want to hang out with you, take an honest look at how you treat others.

Look for opportunities to help and befriend others. You’ll be glad you did.

This week’s devotions:

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 1 Corinthians 15:33

Devotion for Teens on Friends

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” – 1 Corinthians 15:33 (NIV)

Have you noticed who you hang out with makes a big difference? I had a friend that used to swear all the time. Every other word was a bad word. I noticed that after I hung out with this friend for a while, I was starting to swear more.

It’s amazing the influence our friends have on our lives.

Today’s Key – Avoid Friends That Make You Compromise

Who you spend time with is important. Your friends influence the way you think, your decisions, and even sometimes what you do.

If you’ve got some friends that push you to do things that are wrong, consider distancing yourself from those friends. Maybe when you’re around them you’re more likely to make bad choices or bully others. Realize this and choose to limit time with those people.

Read: Why You Shouldn’t Compromise, Even In The Smallest Ways

Your friends make a huge impact on your life. If you want to really live for God and accomplish big things, you will have to avoid friends that make you compromise.

This isn’t to say that you can’t be friendly to those people, but rather your time with them should be limited. If you know they’re going to influence you to do and say things that you don’t want to do, avoid hanging out with them all the time.

Challenge yourself to avoid friends that make you compromise.
