Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – January 17

Teen Devotion and Bible Verse on Gal 2:20

“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. – Gal 2:20 (NAS)

Realizing that you are in union with Christ is really important. To really enjoy the Christian life, you need to get a revelation that you are united with Christ. God doesn’t look at you and see your short comings or what you once were. Instead He sees you thought the blood of Christ, raised up and seated next to Him in heaven.

When you begin to realize that God isn’t holding anything against you, and that you are identified with Christ it will change your whole outlook on life.

In any challenge or situation that we face, we can realize that we identify with Christ. Everything that Christ is, we now are. So we are able to live life to the fullest knowing that God is always looking out for us.

Help! I Have No Friends

Teen Devotion on Friendships

Have you ever felt like all your friends have left you? Maybe you feel like no one really gets you or cares about you. It’s true, friendships can be tricky, but here are a few secrets to help you make better friendships and to not be disappointed with the ones you have.

  1. Ask yourself: “Am I doing anything to push people away?”
I was really shy in school and because of that, I didn’t get asked to do much socially.
Maybe you’re doing things that annoy or drive people away. Be honest and ask yourself if you are doing something that’s pushing others away.
  2. Realize: Not everyone is going to treat you right.
Even if you do everything right, some people are going to not be kind to you. Some people don’t know God and have no basis for treating others with kindness and respect. Life is full of people who aren’t going to treat you right, so realize that and be ready for it when it happens.
  3. Be Friendly.
One of the best ways to get friends is to be friendly. Do you ever take the time to listen to others? Do you go out of your way to try to talk to others? Doing these things can help you gain friends!
“A man who has friends must himself be friendly” – Proverbs 18:24
  4. Get God’s Perspective.
If you are feeling bad about yourself due to a lack of friendships, don’t. Don’t allow other people to determine your self-worth. Whether you have tons of friends or not, you are worth a ton to God.
I will give thanks to you because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made.” – Psalm 139:14

Even if you feel like all your friends have bailed on you, realize that God will never leave you. He’s there to help you and love you. No matter what people do to you, God is on your side. He cares about you like no one else can.

So don’t allow yourself to feel like you’re not important if others don’t always treat you right. People aren’t always going to do the right thing, so you’ve got to choose to let God’s opinion of you be the one that matters.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Proverbs 22:24-25

Teen Devotion on Friendship

In middle school, I had a group of friends that weren’t always the best influence. They pushed me to do things that I probably wouldn’t have done on my own. And while I didn’t get into major trouble, I did cross some lines that I probably wouldn’t have had I not been hanging out with those friends.

The truth is your friendships matter.

Your friends are helping steer your life. They are pushing you in a direction. The question is, do you like the direction you’re headed?

Today’s Truth – The friends you make today direct your future.

Today’s Bible verse shows us that you can learn things from your friends. And if you’re not careful, those things can ensnare you.

Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn their ways and get yourself ensnared. – Proverbs 22:24-25 (NIV)

So today, take a close look at your friends. Where is their influence pushing you? Is it pushing you toward the person you want to be five years from now? If not, consider distancing yourself from those friends. The friends you make today set you up for success or failure in the future.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Luke 6:31

Teen Devotion and Bible Verse on FriendshipsI remember one of the first times I hung out with someone who is now one of my really good friends. The first time we hung out it was honestly kind of awkward.

We didn’t have that much fun and at times, it was a struggle to think of things to talk about.

However, we didn’t give up and hung out another time. Now the rest is history and we are great friends. The key to remember in all friendships is that sometimes they take work.

Today’s Key – Friendships sometimes take work.

You might be having fun and then run into a roadblock. You might think what do I do? How do I move past this and still be friends?

Do to others as you would like them to do to you – Luke 6:31

And while sometimes there are reasons to end a relationship, many times, we just don’t invest the effort because we feel like it’s too much work. Lasting friendships do take some work, forgiveness, and grace.

So today, don’t give up on your relationships. Sometimes it takes work to find a friend you click with. Other times it takes work to stay friends with someone when you’ve hit a relationship roadblock. However, lasting relationships take work.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Proverbs 19:21

Teen Devotion and Bible verse on choices

Your choices are important. The things you choose today set you up for success or failure in the future. So as you’re starting off this new year, take a moment to think about which things you’re choosing.

  • Friends
  • Classes
  • College
  • Who to date
  • Which job to take

There are many other choices, but all these choices are important. They impact your future and what you’ll ultimately end up doing for God.

So take a look at your choices. Are you choosing things you’d be proud of in a few years?

Are you choosing to go after God and His plan and purpose for your life?

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails. – Proverbs 19:21 (NIV)

We can make our own plans, we can choose our own path. God gives us the freedom to do that. However, it’s when we choose to follow God, follow His plan and purpose for our life that we really experience a life of meaning and purpose.

[Tweet “It’s when we follow God and His plan and purpose for our life that we really experience a life of meaning and purpose – @studentdevos”]

God is the one who knows what will fulfill you. So are you seeking what He thinks when you make choices? If you haven’t done so, consider asking God for His help when you’re faced with a choice. You’ll be glad you did!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Hebrews 11:8

Teen Devotion and Bible Verse on trusting God

Have you ever questioned your purpose?

Have you ever been guilty of questioning whether your life has a God-given purpose? I know I have, lots of times. I’ve had times where I’ve wondered whether God really had a plan for me. Other times, I’ve felt alone and totally forgotten.

Feeling like God doesn’t care or that you’re alone is normal. The truth is, God doesn’t leave you to figure things out on your own. Instead, He is there to lead you and guide you – even if it feels crazy sometimes.

However, in those times when things are hard, or when you feel forgotten, it takes faith to believe that God still has a plan for you.

It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. – Hebrews 11:8 (NLT)

Abraham was a great example of someone having faith to believe God, even when he didn’t feel it. He followed after God even when it seemed crazy. Abraham didn’t know where he was going when he started out.

[Tweet “Abraham made a choice to follow God when it seemed crazy. That takes faith – @studentdevos”]

Abraham Made a Choice to Follow God.

Regardless of that, he made the choice to follow God. And that took faith.

Abraham had to trust God probably when he wasn’t feeling it. He had to look past what he saw and felt and he chose to trust that God had a plan for his life.

The same is true for you. God has good plans for your life. Will you trust Him enough to let Him reveal those to you? Will you do as Abraham did and follow those plans even when it seemed crazy?

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Proverbs 20:27

Teen Devotion and BIble Verse on PurposeBe honest. Do you love junk food? My absolute favorite junk food is Cheetos, followed closely by nachos of any kind. I could sit, eat junk food, and binge-watch my favorite series and be pretty happy.

However, I’ve realized that if I fill up all my extra time with things like watching TV and social media, I don’t even have any time to hear from God.

That isn’t good. We should be making knowing God a priority.

Proverbs 20:27 – The spirit of a man is the lamp of the lord searching all the inner depths of his heart

God wants to speak to you. He wants to tell you about your future. He wants to reveal secrets from His word to you. The problem is, many times it feels better to eat Cheetos than it does to get quiet with God.

[Tweet “God wants to speak to you and tell you about your future – @studentdevos”]

You’re more fulfilled when you include God in your life.

In the long run, however, you’re going to be happier and more fulfilled when you include God into your life. When you get God in your decision-making process, you’ll avoid many of the mistakes and pitfalls that others will make. God knows you, He knows the things that will be good for you and if you’ll trust Him with your future, you’ll find out that things are so much better.

So this year, challenge yourself to put aside that bowl of Cheetos for a bit and focus on God. Learn to hear His voice and seek Him for your future plans and desires!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Esther 4:14

Teen Devotion on believing in your calling

The story of Esther is inspiring. She stood up for her people and her faith knowing that she might face death. That takes a lot of courage.

Just like Esther, you’ve been called to do something for God. Your calling might look different from those of people around you, but you’ve been gifted and called for a purpose. You’re on the earth at this moment in time to make a difference.

So what are you going to do? Will you stand up, as Esther did? Will you be bold and brave in your calling?

If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?”
 – Esther 4:14 (NLT)

Today’s Key – Believe in your calling.

To do something big for God, you’ve got to believe in your calling. You have to determine that you will not let anything stop you from doing what God has called you to do.

That takes guts! It’s not easy to do something like Esther did. Standing up for people, doing something different isn’t easy. But if you want to be a person who does big things for God, you’ve got to believe in your calling and take a risk.

When you believe in your calling, it allows you to step out and do things that you might have otherwise been afraid to do.

So today, if you’ve questioned your calling, challenge yourself to live this year differently. Choose to believe that you’re called and then each day live life on purpose. Determine to not let anything distract you from what God has called you to do!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Hebrews 13:21

Teen Devotion on PurposeThere was a student in my school that everyone seemed to like. He didn’t wear the best clothes. In fact, he didn’t even like lots of the video games and things that were popular. He wasn’t the smartest, he wasn’t a good athlete, he wasn’t good at band or music and yet almost everyone at school liked him. Why did everyone like him? It was his confidence.

His confidence made people respect him and want to be around him.

I think that’s a great lesson for us. We don’t always have to everything together. But, if we are confident in the right things, it will impact our future for the good.

Today’s Key – Be Confident, God has a plan for your life!

There is one thing that you can be confident about and that is that God has a plan for your life. You might feel insignificant or overlooked. You may feel misunderstood, but the truth is your feelings aren’t a true indicator. Feelings are fickle and will let you down. The truth is, you’re important.

may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.
 – Hebrews 13:21 (NLT)

God has a plan for your life. You can be confident in that plan. God wants to see you grow in Him and accomplish good things. God’s plans are always good.

So today, if you’ve become discouraged, challenge yourself to focus on God. Become confident in the fact that He has a plan for your life. You matter. And you’re vital to God’s plan on the earth.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Hebrews 4:16

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. – Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)

Have you ever felt like God was too busy to deal with your stuff? Or maybe that you just weren’t important enough for Him to really care about you? It’s easy to feel like God is so busy handling really big things that He might not have the time or energy to care about you.

Perhaps you feel like you’re not worthy enough or that you’ve made too many mistakes to really matter to God. However, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. God loves you. He cares about even the smallest detail of your life.

So when it comes to prayer and talking to God, know this truth: you matter to Him. You’re His child and there is no one He’d rather hear from.

Tip #5 – Praying is easy when you know you can come to God…no matter what

You have every right to come to God. Jesus made it possible for you to come to God with no sin held against you. There’s nothing that’s stopping you from having a relationship with God. So today, choose to believe this truth. Let it become part of who you are. Then spend time developing your relationship with God. God is excited to hear from you!
