Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Philippians 4:8

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. – Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

We’ve been talking a lot about anxiety this week. Sometimes one of the best defenses against anxiety is learning to guard your thoughts. The battle against anxiety is often won in our thought life.

Any time you begin to feel anxious, you can begin to learn to guard your thoughts. When thoughts of anxiety come, we can begin to swap those thoughts for good ones.

Challenge yourself to think about things that are true, honorable, right, and pure. That might mean that you have to pay attention to what you watch. TV and other media can bring anxiety into your life if you’re not careful, so don’t be afraid to turn things off that aren’t causing you to be at peace.

Finally, be sure to take care of yourself. Get enough rest. Often anxiety can be heightened by lack of sleep or self-care. Don’t ignore basic self-care in times of stress and anxiety. Be sure to eat and sleep as much as you can to help yourself feel good.

Challenge: Guard Your Thoughts

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Philippians 4:7

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. – Phil 4:7 (NLT)

With everything going on in the world, it’s easy to be anxious. In fact, it’s almost expected. Everywhere you go, you hear and see people dealing with anxiety. However, as Christians, we don’t have to live our lives in a state of anxiousness. Instead, we can exchange our anxiety for God’s peace.

As God’s children, we can expect to walk in peace. God has provided peace in His presence for us to enjoy.

Sometimes, there can be things that are stopping that peace in your life. For you, that might mean turning off the news, staying off some social media outlets, or switching some of the TV you’re watching. If there’s something in your life that you’re watching or hearing that brings you to fear, change it up. Starve the anxiety out. Then expect to walk in the peace of God in your life.

God’s best for your life is peace. So today, expect to walk in that peace. Know that Jesus provided you with peace. Let that peace guard your heart and mind each day.

Challenge: Expect Peace

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Isaiah 61:3

and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. – Isaiah 61:3

Anxiety can be challenging to shake. Sometimes the problem that is making you anxious seems more real than God’s word. What do you do in those times? How do you help shake the anxiety that just won’t seem to leave?

One way is to begin to praise. You can easily find a praise playlist on YouTube or your favorite music platform. Begin to sing and listen to those songs. They will help remind you of the goodness of God. As you praise, it does something wonderful for you. It begins to help anxiety and despair go from your life.

That’s what today’s Bible verse is saying. That as you praise, it helps you feel better. There’s something powerful about singing to God. So if anxiety has you feeling down, begin to praise. Know that God has your answer and praise knowing that it helps anxiety leave.

Challenge: Praise when you feel anxious.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Matthew 6:30

Don’t you hate being anxious? Especially when you’re feeling that awful feeling in the pit of your stomach that just won’t seem to go away. Anxiety is something we all seem to deal with from time to time. Let’s look today at some truths about how God wants us to handle anxiety.

If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?… – Matthew 6:30 (BSB)

In today’s verse, we see that God really shows us that He will take care of our day-to-day needs. It’s so easy to begin to worry if you’ll be able to stand in front of your class and give a presentation, but if you’ll focus on God and His help for you each day, you begin to see that you can make it.

The truth is, when we’re anxious, we’re really not trusting God. God’s best for our lives is to trust Him and rest in His goodness. That’s often really hard to do. We’d rather carry our worries and concerns. It takes faith to trust, rest and believe that God’s really got the solution to the things that make us anxious.

Challenge: Practice Resting Knowing God’s Got It!

Pray: God, I thank you that you have the answer to the things that make me anxious. Today I choose to rest and trust that you’ve got the answer to my anxiety. Amen.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Philippians 4:6

Have you ever felt anxious about something? Maybe you had a test in History class that just seemed too overwhelming, or maybe it was whether you’d be asked to the Homecoming Dance by your crush. Whatever the case, anxiety can affect us all.

Sometimes anxiety is so bad in your life that it’s all you can think about. When that happens, anxiety can just feel overwhelming.

As Christians, we should be challenging ourselves to do what today’s Bible verse says, be anxious for nothing.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. – Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

The idea of not being anxious can really seem almost impossible. What about if you don’t get asked to the dance? Isn’t that going to be bad for your social life? How about that History test? If you fail won’t that mean that you don’t pass the class? How do you really go about life not being anxious?

The answer lies in today’s verse. We should be going to God with our concerns. Instead of being anxious, we are to present our requests to Him. We should be letting God do the carrying of the things that overwhelm and consume us.

So today, challenge yourself to not be anxious. Instead of anxiety, choose to focus your attention on Jesus.

Challenge: Change the focus from the problem to the answer, Jesus.

Pray: Jesus, today I choose to not be anxious. I’ll take my problems to you in prayer. Help me to see that you’re the solution to the challenges I face, in your name I pray, Amen.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Romans 12:9

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.
 – Romans 12:9

How often do you really love other people? This verse talks about not pretending to love others but really love them. What does real love look like?

Real love looks out for what is best for the other person. It doesn’t just say and do what makes other people happy. Real love stays the same. It doesn’t change based on how someone treats you or how you feel. When you love someone with God’s love, it doesn’t matter how that person responds, rather what matters is how you respond.

Real love, the God kind of love isn’t always easy to live out. It takes guts. It takes putting aside what feels right at the moment and responding to that person in love. When you choose to love, it makes a difference, especially to those who don’t know Christ. Choose to demonstrate crazy love today to someone who might be hurting. You never know who you might win for Christ by choosing to love!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Philippians 4:7

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. – Phil 4:7 (NLT)

How many times in life do we get stressed out about something going on? It might be an upcoming test, a relationship with a friend, or some peer pressure you face. It’s easy to internalize those stresses and let them build until they almost feel overwhelming.

However, there’s a better way. That’s what today’s Bible verse talks about. It tells us that we can experience God’s peace. In the midst of the chaos, drama, and things going on around us, we can be at peace. We don’t have to take on the cares and concerns of the world, rather we can hand our concerns to God because we know He cares for us. Once we’ve given God our concerns, we can live in peace.

Choose today to not take on lots of cares and worries. Decide instead to live in God’s peace. Let His peace fill your heart and mind. You can live in peace knowing that God will always take care of you.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Isaiah 61:3

Do you ever have those days when you just want to despair? Maybe you feel sad for no reason or are stressed out with the cares and concerns of life to where you wonder if you can go on. That’s where today’s Bible verse comes in.

and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. – Isaiah 61:3 (NIV)

One of the best things to do when you feel you can’t go on is to praise. Today’s verse tells us that we have a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. That means we have to put on praise like we would with a shirt. We put on praise instead of feeling overwhelmed, upset, or full of despair.

So trade your despair for praise. You can do this by finding a praise playlist that you like on YouTube. Just search for worship music and keep it playing as much as you can. The more you can praise, the more heaviness seems to lift. So challenge yourself today to keep praising to help

Today’s Truth: Trade Despair for Praise

Despair for praise

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Matthew 6:21

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. – Matthew 6:21 (NIV)

Have you ever saved money for a long time in order to buy something you really wanted? Was it saved for a computer or a new pair of shoes? How did you treat it once you finally got it? Chances are you went out of your way to make sure you took good care of it. Why is that? When you’ve invested your own money into something your heart is now in it. You’ve had to work for that and save. It wasn’t easy to get the money and to use discipline to put off buying other things to wait and get what you really wanted.

This is also how the things of God work. When you take the time to invest in your relationship with God, you value it. You realize how special it is and guard it. Your relationship with God is important so be sure that you don’t take it for granted. Take time out of each day to pray and read your Bible. Be sure to attend a small group and a local church. These things will help you grow in your relationship with God.

Treat your relationship with God like a treasure. If you do, you heart will be there too. Spend time and money developing your relationship with God. It will bring you lasting rewards.

Today’s Truth: Your relationship with God is a treasure.

Your relationship with God is a treasure.

Today’s Bible Verse and Devotion – Matthew 6:25

Are you living today thinking about a problem? Are your thoughts pre-occupied with a situation and you keep trying to figure out what to do? I have good news for you. God knows the answer to your problem and knows how to fix it. Why don’t you just stop thinking about it and start to talk to God about it? Excessive thinking can be a symptom of worry.

Jesus said “ Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink, nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than raiment?” Matthew 6:25 Jubilee Bible

You may be tempted to “ take thought”- or worry about the situation. But right now I want you to know God cares about it. Why not take a moment and simply say “Father, I’ m sorry I’ve been worried about this situation. But here it is……(state the problem). Father, I don’t know how to fix it but I know you do. So I’m asking you to give me wisdom to know what to do. I’m asking You to work in this situation for me because I can’t do anything about it. And So from now on when I think about it- I say God, you are working on it and I won’t worry about it anymore. Thank You Father and from now on I’m going to set my thoughts on the fact that You care for me and are working this out.
