Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – John 10:3

The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. – John 10:3 (NLT)

As a child of God, you have probably heard someone say that you can expect to hear His voice. But how do you get started? Well, first of all, it starts by being willing. Are you willing to listen to God’s leading? If so, then begin to ask Him to speak to you.

It’s kind of like how you can hear your mom’s voice, even if you don’t see her, and know she’s calling for you. You’ve known your mom your whole life, and as a result, you really know her voice. You know when you need to obey based on her tone, or you can tell when she’s happy all based on her voice.

The same is true when it comes to hearing from God. As you hear His voice more, and practice following Him, the more confident you get that you hear Him. So start with something small. Ask God for help with your math homework. Or ask Him for an idea on how to deal with a difficult situation with a friend. Then get quiet and still and listen. Many times, an idea will pop into your head, or perhaps you’ll see a scripture during your Bible reading time that will encourage you and be exactly what you need to hear.

These things are the leading of God. The ideas on how to deal with a situation. The encouraging scripture that helps you get through another tough day. That is God leading you. Know that He wants to lead and guide you. And the more you begin to trust that leading, the more He will lead you.

So today, realize that God wants to lead you. You’ve just got to give Him opportunities to do it. So keep reading your Bible, keep asking Him for help when you deal with difficulty. The more you give Him room to work in your life the more He will do.

Know that He loves you, He knows your name and wants to lead you every single day.

Today’s Truth: God wants to lead you.

God wants to lead you.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. – Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)

There are so many promises in God’s word. Maybe there’s one that you’ve been standing on, but you just haven’t seen the results yet. And in your stand, you’ve found that it’s been easy to want to get tired and give up.

Waiting is one of the hardest things about faith. We want God’s promises to happen automatically in our lives. But sometimes, that isn’t the case. And so how do we keep faith when things seem to be so far from what we’d like to see in our lives?

One of the best ways to encourage yourself is to remember the things that God has done for you. Maybe there was the time when you discovered a Bible verse that really encouraged you. Or the prayer for more friends that God answered for you last year. Whatever it is, take some time to remember what God has done for you and thank Him. As you do that, it will cause your confidence in God’s ability to grow. It will cause faith to rise up in your heart and you’ll realize that you do have the courage to stand strong.

So if you’re in one of those times when your faith feels shaky, begin reminding yourself of the things God has done. Read Bible stories about how God came through for others and you’ll find yourself growing stronger in faith. Even if you don’t see the results yet, know that God will come through for you!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Matthew 4:4

Teen Devotion and Bible Verse on The Importance of Reading Your Bible

But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” – Matthew 4:4 (NLT)

Have you ever read the Bible but felt overwhelmed? Maybe the book seems really big. Perhaps you don’t like reading. Those things can make Bible reading seem really hard. However, the study of God’s word is important.

Today’s verse shows us that we aren’t to just eat food and that’s all we need for growth. Instead, it tells us that we need also need to feed on the Word of God. Feeding on God’s word might sound weird, but it’s really helpful for your spiritual growth.

The Bible helps us learn right from wrong. It helps us make good decisions and makes us wise.

God’s word is a powerful tool in our lives. Your heart was made for God’s word. God’s word is a seed that produces growth and life in your life. So if you haven’t, find ways to make time for God’s word. It might be something simple like reading a quick devotion every day or listening to a YouTube sermon or Podcast. Even if you don’t like to read there are many ways to get God’s word in your heart.

So today, make God’s word a priority in your life. Don’t go a day without spending time in God’s word!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Luke 6:31

Do to others as you would like them to do to you. – Luke 6:31 (NLT)

How do you treat others? Are you a person who is known for kindness? Do you look for opportunities to bless people who are in your life? Or are you always looking internally, totally focused on what you can get out of your relationships?

It’s easy when you’ve been mistreated to not trust others. You let past hurts keep you from helping and loving others. However, God calls us to treat others well, regardless of how they’ve treated you in the past.

Today’s Truth: Find true fulfillment by helping others.

When people haven’t treated you well, it’s easy to become internally focused. When you do that, you begin to let your problems consume you and you forget that you’re called to be a blessing to others.

So today instead of focusing on how others mistreat us, choose instead to focus on others. Get into the mindset of treating others how you’d like to be treated. Choose to bless and help others. As you do, you’ll find freedom and happiness

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 1 John 4:7

Youth Devotion - God is Love

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. – 1 John 4:7 (NLT)

When you think about God, what do you think? Do you think of Him as someone who is loving?

Today’s Bible verse tells us that God is love and that love comes from God. Without God showing us love, we wouldn’t know how to love. God’s love is perfect, and unlike human love, it doesn’t have any conditions or requirements other than us accepting it.

Today’s Key: God is Love

God is love. He shows us His love in so many ways. He shows it to us in creation, as we have food to eat, air to breathe. He shows us His love also through Jesus.

It was in Jesus, that God really demonstrated His love. God gave the best He had to have a relationship with us.

So let the knowledge of God’s love flow into every area of your life. As you begin to think about it, it makes it easier to love others. We realize that even though we didn’t deserve it, God loved us. And that knowledge helps us to love others who don’t deserve it!

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Hebrews 10:38

Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man shall draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
 – Hebrews 10:38

One summer, I was getting ready to go on a missions trip. My missions team spent a few days before the trip working on team building. One of the exercises we did was called a trust fall. What we did in this exercise was to stand on a ledge and fall backward into the arms of our team members. I remember standing on that ledge trying to work up the courage to fall back into what I couldn’t see, and trust my team members to catch me.

That’s a lot what living by faith feels like at times. It can feel like you’re standing on a ledge getting ready to fall, and you’re trusting God to catch you.

The good news about living by faith, however, is that God is not going to let you fall. When you read the Bible, you see that time after time God came through for those who loved Him. You can know that He will do the same for you.

Today’s Truth: God is not going to let you fall.

So even though you might be scared at times and feel like you don’t know what to do, remember that God will never let you fall. He’s there to catch you, look out for you, and love you. So choose today to trust in God. Choose to put your faith in Him. The Bible tells us in today’s verse that we are to live by faith. So choose to put your trust in God and watch Him come through for you!

God won't let you fall

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Philippians 4:8

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. – Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

We’ve been talking a lot about anxiety this week. Sometimes one of the best defenses against anxiety is learning to guard your thoughts. The battle against anxiety is often won in our thought life.

Any time you begin to feel anxious, you can begin to learn to guard your thoughts. When thoughts of anxiety come, we can begin to swap those thoughts for good ones.

Challenge yourself to think about things that are true, honorable, right, and pure. That might mean that you have to pay attention to what you watch. TV and other media can bring anxiety into your life if you’re not careful, so don’t be afraid to turn things off that aren’t causing you to be at peace.

Finally, be sure to take care of yourself. Get enough rest. Often anxiety can be heightened by lack of sleep or self-care. Don’t ignore basic self-care in times of stress and anxiety. Be sure to eat and sleep as much as you can to help yourself feel good.

Challenge: Guard Your Thoughts

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Philippians 4:7

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. – Phil 4:7 (NLT)

With everything going on in the world, it’s easy to be anxious. In fact, it’s almost expected. Everywhere you go, you hear and see people dealing with anxiety. However, as Christians, we don’t have to live our lives in a state of anxiousness. Instead, we can exchange our anxiety for God’s peace.

As God’s children, we can expect to walk in peace. God has provided peace in His presence for us to enjoy.

Sometimes, there can be things that are stopping that peace in your life. For you, that might mean turning off the news, staying off some social media outlets, or switching some of the TV you’re watching. If there’s something in your life that you’re watching or hearing that brings you to fear, change it up. Starve the anxiety out. Then expect to walk in the peace of God in your life.

God’s best for your life is peace. So today, expect to walk in that peace. Know that Jesus provided you with peace. Let that peace guard your heart and mind each day.

Challenge: Expect Peace

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Isaiah 61:3

and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. – Isaiah 61:3

Anxiety can be challenging to shake. Sometimes the problem that is making you anxious seems more real than God’s word. What do you do in those times? How do you help shake the anxiety that just won’t seem to leave?

One way is to begin to praise. You can easily find a praise playlist on YouTube or your favorite music platform. Begin to sing and listen to those songs. They will help remind you of the goodness of God. As you praise, it does something wonderful for you. It begins to help anxiety and despair go from your life.

That’s what today’s Bible verse is saying. That as you praise, it helps you feel better. There’s something powerful about singing to God. So if anxiety has you feeling down, begin to praise. Know that God has your answer and praise knowing that it helps anxiety leave.

Challenge: Praise when you feel anxious.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Matthew 6:30

Don’t you hate being anxious? Especially when you’re feeling that awful feeling in the pit of your stomach that just won’t seem to go away. Anxiety is something we all seem to deal with from time to time. Let’s look today at some truths about how God wants us to handle anxiety.

If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?… – Matthew 6:30 (BSB)

In today’s verse, we see that God really shows us that He will take care of our day-to-day needs. It’s so easy to begin to worry if you’ll be able to stand in front of your class and give a presentation, but if you’ll focus on God and His help for you each day, you begin to see that you can make it.

The truth is, when we’re anxious, we’re really not trusting God. God’s best for our lives is to trust Him and rest in His goodness. That’s often really hard to do. We’d rather carry our worries and concerns. It takes faith to trust, rest and believe that God’s really got the solution to the things that make us anxious.

Challenge: Practice Resting Knowing God’s Got It!

Pray: God, I thank you that you have the answer to the things that make me anxious. Today I choose to rest and trust that you’ve got the answer to my anxiety. Amen.
