Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Proverbs 19:20

One of the hardest things for me to do is accept correction. I don’t like admitting I’m wrong. That is especially true if I have to admit that in front of others. Can you relate to feeling that way?

Most likely correction isn’t something you’re going to love. However, if you’re corrected by your parents, teachers, or pastors, it’s usually good for you, and it helps you grow. To become wise and mature, it’s good to learn to accept correction.

Listen to advice and accept discipline,
and at the end you will be counted among the wise. – Proverbs 19:20 (NIV)

There is wisdom in accepting correction and advice from people who are around us that are wise. Often, the pastors, parents, and teachers in our lives have gone through things that are similar to what we face. Their advice is good when it’s Biblical, because they have more life experience and wisdom that we do.

If we will be open to accepting advice and correction from others, it can help us grow, and make us wise.

Today, if you struggle with accepting correction, ask God to help you. He will show you strategies that will help you to take correction better. God wants good things for your life, just know that most of the people that gently correct you in your life love you, and want what’s best for you. Don’t be too proud to accept correction and learn from your mistakes.

Today’s Truth: Correction is good for you.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Matthew 5:37

Just say a simple, ‘Yes, I will,’ or ‘No, I won’t.’ Anything beyond this is from the evil one. – Matthew 5:37 (NLT)

Lying is something I have really struggled with. Sometimes it looks like stretching the truth. I often like to make myself seem better than I actually am. Sometimes, I’ve lied before to save myself from getting in trouble with my parents. How about you? Have you struggled with lying?

Here’s the truth about lying. Many times, lying comes from loving and wanting to preserve ourselves. We want people to think good things about us, and sometimes we stretch the truth to make ourselves look better. A lot of the time, we can justify lying because often it doesn’t really hurt anyone. And it helps us avoid trouble or look bad in front of other people.

Today’s Truth: Speak the truth in all you do!

Regardless of how we try to justify lying, the truth is that it’s sin. God is truth, and lying is not in His character. He tells us in the Bible that we should be keeping our word and speaking truth. So as children of God, we should not be lying. We should be known for speaking truth, and speak truth in all we do.

So if lying has been a struggle for you, decide today to ask God for His help. Ask Him to help you stop lying and speak truth in all you do. With His help, you can put lying aside and walk free from the habit of lying.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Ephesians 4:32

Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. – Ephesians 4:32

We live in a world where we can get things quickly. There are instant answers to our questions online. We enjoy instant responses on social media and through text messages. In the fast-paced world, we live in, it’s often easy to forget the basic things that God tells us to do.

God tells us to be kind. Being kind is tough especially online. We can often forget to filter what we say to others because we don’t have to say it that person’s face. We are to forgive others. Other people will let you down, say unkind things about you and it’s easy to hold those things against others. However, we are to forgive others.

That might almost seem impossible, especially if the person has really hurt you. However, because of what Jesus did for us, we have the ability to forgive others. We don’t always have to allow others access to hurt us again, but we do need to forgive them.

Today, if you’ve been hurt by someone, choose to forgive. If you’re tempted to be unkind, choose to practice kindness. Know that God has given you the ability to forgive and be kind, so choose to tap into that ability inside of you and live your life based on what Christ did for you.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – 1 John 2:17

The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever – 1 John 2:17 (NIV)

Have you noticed how easy it is to get consumed by what’s going on around you? For you, it might be getting swept up into all gossip going on at school. Perhaps it’s simply spending too much time gaming or watching TV. Whatever it is for you, it’s really easy to lose focus on the things that are important.

God has a divine plan and purpose for your life. However, it’s easy to become too busy to take time to hear from Him.

Today’s Truth: Take Time to Hear From God

So today, challenge yourself to break out of the normal and do something different. Choose to take time to hear from God concerning your future. It might be spending a few minutes before you go to bed each night reading your Bible. It could possibly be getting up a little earlier or listing to a great podcast that challenges you to follow after God. Whatever the case might be for you, make getting to know God a priority in your life. Find out His plan and His will for your future.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Luke 12:26

Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? – Luke 12:26 (NIV)

Worry will destroy your life if you let it. If left unchecked, worry, even over small things will stop you from doing the things God has called you to do.

Worry will keep you from sleeping and stop you from enjoying life. That’s not God’s best or what He wants for your life.

So determine to not let worry be a part of your life. Decide instead to lean on God. Trust God with the areas of your life that you can’t control and worry about.

Today’s Truth: Replace Your Worry With Trust in God

Determine to trust God. Trust Him to provide the friends, clothes, money and time you need. Replace your worry with trust in God. God will never leave you without help. So determine to rely on Him and not worry about the other things.

Replace Your Worry With Trust in God

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Proverbs 1:7

I bet you didn’t walk into school today thinking, I’m not going to learn anything. You don’t go to school to not learn more about the world around you, that would be pointless.

Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. – Proverbs 1:7 (NLT)

The interesting thing is that all knowledge, all learning really starts with God at the center. Knowing God is true knowledge. When you know God, the lessons you learn in math make more sense because you realize that the God who created those patterns is logical and orderly.

As you study music in your music class, you realize that the wonderful sounds all stem from a wonderful God who creates beautiful things to enjoy.

When you know God and love Him, it helps you learn and enjoy the world around you more. So if you haven’t before, start your day at school today thankful for a God who created you with the ability to learn. Thank God for the opportunity to learn more about the world He created and determine to grow in His wisdom and knowledge today.

Today’s truth: Knowledge Starts With God at the Center

Wisdom begins with fearing God

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Ephesians 4:24

Just for fun, let’s pretend that someone gave you millions and millions of dollars. With that money comes a new way of living for you. Instead of just choosing the car you can afford, you can now pick the car that you want the most. Instead of wearing the clothes and shoes that your family can afford, you suddenly can buy anything and everything that you want.

That would be pretty great, wouldn’t it? I think most of us would really enjoy spending money without limits.

But here’s the thing about getting all that money. You could instead of spending it, keep it in the bank. Maybe you never withdraw any funds. The millions and millions of dollars wouldn’t change your life much then, would it?

In the same way, when we’re talking about living for God, we have a choice. We can choose to let our new nature change the way we live our lives or we can ignore it.

Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy – Ephesians 4:24 (NLT)

Each day, we get to decide if we’re going to let God’s new nature change how we live. We decide whether we’re going to live and let the new nature rule our lives or the old one.

Today, choose to let the new nature run your life. Decide to live in all the goodness God has provided for you in Jesus!

Ephesians 4:24

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Ephesians 4:14

Have you given any thought as to why you believe what you do about Jesus? Is it only because your mom told you it was right? Or maybe you believe because of what your youth pastor preaches each week.

And it’s great if you believe something because it’s what your parents or another leader believes. However, there will come a time in your life if it hasn’t already where your faith will be questioned. Someone will show up and give a really good argument for something other than Jesus, and you might find that your faith is shaken.

Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. – Ephesians 4:14 (NLT)

Many of the things people say in the world make a lot of sense and sound like truth. However, those things that sound so good are not always truth. If you’re not going to lose your faith when someone says something convincing, then you’re going to need to know what you believe and why you believe it.

If you need some help in this area, check out this devotion.

Decide today to take some time to study and wrestle with what you believe. By doing this, you will be better equipped to stand firm when you face with a situation that contradicts your faith. Spend some time getting to know your Bible, and logically thinking through what you believe and why. Doing this will help your faith remain firm.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Ephesians 4:1

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. – Ephesians 4:1 (NIV)

You are a child of God and as His child, you’ve been called to do something for Him. God has placed desires and dreams in your heart and wants to help you accomplish them. But, have you noticed how easy it is to get sidetracked when it comes to our calling? Most of the time, it’s not intentional. We just get busy or sucked into the Netflix world and the next thing we know, we’ve totally forgotten about the things God has called us to do.

If we live our lives just for ourselves and we wait for our dreams to magically fulfill themselves, we will always be disappointed. We’ve got to be more intentional when it comes to our dreams. If we live our lives just for ourselves and look to others for fulfillment we will be disappointed. True fulfillment comes when we put our focus on our God-given calling.

The only thing that can bring you the peace and fulfillment you need is Jesus. He’s called you, so live a life that’s worthy of that calling. Choose to not be distracted by other things and choose instead to lean into Jesus. Trust Him to help you find the path that’s right for you. You’ve been called to great things!

Today’s Truth: Trust Jesus to help you find the right path.

Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Philippians 4:11

It’s easy to envy others. Perhaps you have a friend who is happily dating someone and you’re single.  It’s easy to envy them and want to be in a relationship too.

It’s hard to be happy when it feels like others have happiness and you don’t. However, the secret to living a happy life is simple, you’ve got to choose to give thanks and be content even when you don’t feel it.

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. – Phil 4:11 (NIV)

Paul didn’t always feel it. There were times when he was going through some really tough stuff. Yet, even in the middle of all the hardships, he found ways to be content.

That’s what you’ve got to do too. You’ve got to choose to be content. Even if you’re single. Even if you haven’t met that right person yet. Choose to give thanks to God.

Today’s Truth – Give Thanks

Giving thanks can even be like a faith step. You might not have met the right person to date yet, but that’s ok. You can choose to thank God and be happy in the season you’re in.
