I remember when I went out for Cross Country. Honestly, I don’t know why I did it. I hate running. But, I had a close friend that was going to go out for the team, so I decided to join also. Each practice was torture for me. I was really bad at it, and one of the slowest runners on the team. During the season the coach encouraged us with running techniques and ways to help us do our best at the meets.
As a member of the team, I had to be willing to be coached. I had to listen to what the coach said and apply the techniques he told us to my running. Now, I never became an amazing runner, but I did learn some good things that season.
In the same way, we have a coach spiritually, which is the Holy Spirit. He wants to lead us, teach us new things, and help us do our best in the race of life.
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. – Romans 8:14 (NIV)
Our job is to be willing to be led. That takes humility. We often have to put down what we think is best, for what the Holy Spirit coaches us to do. It involves choosing to submit to His leading over our own feelings and emotions.
The good news is however, that following the Holy Spirit is worth it. It’s worth it to have His input into your life. He is able to teach you, and show you things to come. If you’re willing and open, you can learn a lot if you’ll just let Him lead you. The Holy Spirit is your coach and your guide. He walks along with you to help you in every situation that you face.
Goal #3 – Am I Willing to Be Led?
This year, as you make goals, consider this one. Are you willing to let the Holy Spirit lead in your life? Will you trust Him as one that has wisdom to guide you into the things ahead in your life? Will you humble yourself and let Him lead?
