That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” – Mark 4:35 (NIV)
Jesus gave His disciples a promise of safe arrival on the other side of the lake in today’s verse. This word could have been enough for the disciples to hang onto when they faced the bad storm in the following verses. The disciples could have faced the storm and thought, you know what? Jesus said we would go over to the other side. And then just believed that word from Jesus.
Instead, the disciples did what most of us are guilty of doing. We have promises in the Bible from God. And yet, when a difficulty arises, we completely forget those promises. We begin to freak out, fear and think things are hopeless.
I’m guilty of doing this all the time. When hard times come due to the word, I want to give up. I think things are hopeless and there’s no way out. But what does Jesus say? He says we’re going to make it to the other side.
So regardless of what you face today, your situation isn’t hopeless. Jesus hasn’t left you. The promises in the Bible are true. Yes, we’re wired to look to our feelings and to our situation instead of God, but we can choose to look past those things and look to what God says instead.
Your situation is not too hopeless. God’s promises are true, and you can know that if God has said something in the Bible, it will come to pass. So instead of going to your emotions and feelings, look instead to Jesus. Know that He will see you through the storm.
