So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. – 2 Peter 1:12 (NIV)
Today’s Bible verse talks about being firmly established. That’s an interesting idea, isn’t it? It’s easy to be swayed by things. You might hear a good argument from a teacher at your school, or a friend and it changes your opinion about something. Maybe you read a book, and it helps you see things in a new light. When things like that happen, you have been swayed in what you believe.
Being swayed is okay for things that aren’t moral or things of faith. If your friend presents a good argument about why you should buy a certain brand of shoes for instance, that isn’t something that really matters in the light of eternity if your opinion is swayed.
But let’s say that a friend argues with you and sways your opinion about something the Bible speaks about? What then? Who do you believe and who do you go with? Well, the best thing to go with is what God’s word says.
Today’s verse talks about being established. And that means you might have to do some work. Maybe you don’t know what God’s word says about an issue or topic. That might mean that you’ve got to study a little, and find out what God’s word says. As you do this, you become more firmly established about what you believe.
The more you learn about what the Bible says, the more strong your foundation in God’s word will become. It’s knowing God’s word and getting it into your heart that will help you stand strong and be firmly established in truth. So today, decide to spend some time studying God’s word. Know what you believe and why you believe it so that you can be firmly established.
