Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Proverbs 4:20

Proverbs 4:20 scripture

My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words – Proverbs 4:20 (NLT)

Have you ever found that it’s really hard to pay attention? Maybe you think your History teacher is really boring and speaks in a monotone voice. Or perhaps when talking to friends, you struggle listening to conversations about things you aren’t interested in. Focusing your attention on something or someone takes effort.

Being attentive is something we’re supposed to do with God’s words. We are to listen to them carefully. Not just sort of half-listen but really listen to them. We should get them down in our hearts and then let those words affect our daily lives.

God’s words should be a part of what we think, do, and say. It’s when we really let the Bible get into our hearts that it has the power to change us. So if you’ve not really listened and thought about God’s words challenge yourself to do it.

Today’s Bible Verse – Psalm 119:105

Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. – Psalm 119:105 (NIV)

I remember a time not too long ago when I lost a sweater. It was one I really wanted to wear, and I looked everywhere for it. I had taken all the clothes out of my dresser and closet and still couldn’t find where it was. Finally, when all hope was lost, I grabbed a flashlight and looked under my bed.

When I stuck my head under my bed with my flashlight, and all of a sudden I could see what I had been missing. The flashlight brought light to the situation and I was able to find my missing sweater.

That’s a lot like what God’s word does in our lives. God’s word helps us see things we are missing. We might not know what to do about a relationship, God’s word helps us see it clearly. If we don’t know what to do in a difficult situation, God’s word provides the light we need to make good decisions. God’s word is useful in every situation we face.

Today’s Truth: God’s Word Helps Us See What We’re Missing

Today, choose to be thankful for God’s word. Even if you don’t have a lot of time, spend a few minutes before you go to bed tonight thinking about scripture and asking God to help show you areas in your life that you might need some spiritual illumination.

Teen Devotion on Gods Word

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. – Psalm 119:105

Have you ever used Google Maps when you were in a new place? Perhaps you wanted to know where to get some food and you decided to let your maps app direct you to an awesome new restaurant. Once you turned on that map, it gave you turn by turn instructions that led you to your destination.

God wants the Bible to be our Google Maps in life. The Bible is what we can go to when we need to know what the next turn is in life. The Bible is our place to go when we don’t know what to do. The Bible has answers to the toughest of situations and circumstances you might face.

Treat God’s word like Google Maps. Let it guide you each step of your journey. When you don’t know what to do, it shows you what to do. When you don’t know what the future holds, it brings you hope and encouragement. God’s word is the answer to everything we face!
